Sounds like a bad alternator.... May want to drive it over to the nearest AutoZone and have them perform their free test on it. They can do it in-car.

I looked thru threads and its never been reported.Alt light stays on after shut down.I replaced voltage regulator and still light on.Ran car 2 minutes noticed bad smell from altnator area and it was hot.Shut engine and disconnnected battery.Whats the problem here.Had alternator rebuilt 6 months ago.
