Hi Caitlin (and Betty White)
Welcome to the group. I just joined too. I finally bought my '81 300D in Sept. I'm dead on the sidelines now since I threw a rod. Found out someone not me! smashed into something hard enough to put a crease across the oil pan, thus causing a leak at the drain plug! Sigh.
Anyhow, you asked: > Coolant flush and fill (my new mechanic, also a 300SD owner, strongly recommended that asap) is getting more pressing as our temps are dropping. I've got Zerex ready to go, and I bought one of those $4 "kits" (mostly for the instructions on the back) but now I realize they want you to cut on of your lines and leave their plastic piece installed all the time. Doesn't that restrict the flow? Or would it be fine? How else would I do it? Any video or photo instructions?
I know from past, painful, expensive experience that is a BAD, BAD, BAD way to go. It was sweltering hot that July day here in TX. We were headed uphill, just a few miles from home when that stupid cap from the kit blew off. By the time we were able to get off the freeway the engine was shot. Then began the nightmare of getting a motor. Ugh. The truck was never the same again.
