When I needed my first boot, I thought it would be easy, after all I've done several to my Subaru. From what I learned it's not easy. The special tool required to strech the boot over the joint is very costly, no one had one in Eastern Washington. Then I found out I could buy lifetime axles for less than getting a boot on one. The job to replace the whole axle is much easier than a boot job. I even found a video somewhere showing the process of installing a boot, did not like the looks of that. But I never thought about a split boot, they did not work on my Subaru . Maybe thats a good way to go though. Max

So, it is not just about greasing up the joints. I want to ultimately replace everything that is rubber, plastic, or that wears out over time as just a part of my normal maintenance like changing the oil.
