Thanks Tom,
Does the light glow if the regulator is bad? I will check on my drive tonight. I think I am praying for a bad battery. But I will check the wiring to the headlight, to see if I pinched, pulled, or otherwise caused a short.
It started in the AM, but not after I stopped for breakfast. I will say the lights, radio, and air were still on when I tried the restart. But the 40 miles at 70 mph should have charged the battery even more. I will check and report back tomorrow.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: battery/headlight/alternator
Chuck,
The light is a pretty simple circuit that glows when the battery is "charging" the alternator, instead of the alternator charging the battery. If the light is OUT (dark) and the battery is connected, while the engine is running, that is an indication that the alternator is charging.
It sounds really silly, but it has happened in my benighted driving past that a "bad battery" was simply a battery low on water. Always check that. Always use only distilled water to top up the battery.
Good luck on the hunt.
Tom
