Re: [diesel_mercedes] New timing chain?

I have 200,000 miles on Mary and 280,000 on Martha (both 1983 300d's). I am starting to get a little nervous, but not too much. Next time I do my valves I will check the chains again and offer up a little prayer to the German Engineers Club.

Subject: [diesel_mercedes] New timing chain?

I have an 82 300D; I'm getting different stories from different mechanics. One says my Timing chain should be changed every 100,000 miles as precaution because "if it goes there goes my engine". Another is saying that he's never seen one of these go in a Mercedes diesel so there is nothing to worry about. Who should I listen to? Also it needs an Oil Cooler should I get a new one or is a good salvage yard part ok?
