Let me put in my 2 cents. When I first joined the group 6-7 years ago, there were several people discussing the same issue you raise. I cannot say how it was resolved, but it has gotta be easier to transplant the motor. Personally, I'd probably try to do what you are doing but I'm unsure that the expended effort would not be in vain. There are many diesel mercs in the boneyard, or even on Craigslist having bad bodies but good motors. I bought an 84 300D that wouldn't start in the winter because it had been neglected and the valves required setting; the previous owner had inherited the car and couldn't get his price when it wouldn't start in the cool fall air. In the spring, he had it towed off to the boneyard, where I bought it for $300. So I guess my point is that you can probably find a turboed motor if you look around for less than it will cost you in time and effort to retrofit what you have with a turbo.

What do you think about cooling this engine with out oil injectors could water injection or cold air induction with inter cooler work?
Sent from my iPad Barry, Pistons for that year/model at www.Autohausaz.com run just over $100 to just under $200 each. I also shop www.peachparts.com but autohausaz is usually cheaper on most parts. I got really good prices on my daughter's VW Passat parts at www.rockauto.com May be worth a look there for MB pistons. Blaise

Sent from my iPad In the 123s, that is. The S-class models, 300SD, W116 and it's successor, the W126, were turbo'd from the start (1978).
