'Hadn't even thought about that. I suppose that as it's lasted 30-years and 320,000 miles, it should endure about the same again after a rebuild.

For me, I prefer to rebuild than replace, and, since the diaphragm kits are currently MUCH cheaper than the piston kits, the older design is better....

Mark, did you ever find a rebuild kit for that pump? I can find one for the 1980 SD all day long. Nothing for this oddball on the '79.

I posted the same question on Kent Bergsma's board and this was his reply: "The newer style pump is the better design because they did away with the rubber diaphragms. They are not directly interchangeable. You would have to change the I.P. pump timing device that drives the vacuum pump. Older style had two diaphragms and the repair kit is dealer only."
So looks like I need to source the repair kit. Maybe. I note your request of me in the last paragraph and now I do remember reading this one. I'll let ya know once I get this thing back on the road.
