Well, it is good thinking. I have been impressed with my OM617 engines lately myself. I attribute their good performance to two years worth of:  diesel purges, Italian tune ups, MMO & Diesel Kleen + Cetane Boost, filters, StarTron (recent), and stuff like that. I don't worry about engine performance anymore, but rather things like drive train, suspension, vacuum, or electrical issues.
