Re: [diesel_mercedes] Chraging Test

And, after posting, it occurred to me to read the reviews:

Generally positive.
5 mentioned that it is the lighted model.
It reads to hundreds of a volt!!!! And the people who checked it against an accurate voltmeter were impressed.

Nate,

I need one also.

Can you tell us the brand name and model number of the one with the red numerals and long thin cord?

Thanks,
Bobby

Because both Tom and I got blindsided by this design failure , we both now have a " INNOVA " brand voltmeter that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket and provides both battery voltage and charging rate .

I found it at Wall Mart IIRC , mine is back lighted so it's useful at night , Tom's isn't so read the packaging carefully .

About $20 IIRC ..

I also bought one else where , it has red LED  numerals and the plug is on the end of a long thin wire so you can stick it to the dash board and not have to look down to see the charge rate .

FWIW , I think these are very useful items .

Well what do you know.  Took it to my mechanic and it's now 13.75.  I just scratch my head.  When I put the "good" alternator back in I still got battery voltage.  I guess the drive on the freeway to the mechanic must have loosened something up.  Maybe the brushes had to wear in a bit.  By the time I got home it was at 13.45vdc.  I'm keeping my volt meter with me though.  I'll be testing it quite frequently until I'm sure it's not a fluke......Fluke tests for flukes.   Lawrence Rhodes.
