I took my first drive in my "new" '80 240d that now has a '79 5cyl 3L
engine/auto tranny installed.......
It works nice!!
I'm going to have to get used to it starting in second, unless, I stab the
throttle to get it into first at takeoff, though.........
I'm sure some fine point issues will appear, but, so far, it seems pretty
good........
crisp shifting (maybe a little to crisp on the shifts, a little high on the
rpm maybe.....), much faster than with the 4 cyl/auto..........especially on
hills.
It's running between 80-100 C on temp, seems a little high, considering it's
snowing today......but, I'm not sure the temp gauge is calibrated. I'll
check with the manual thermometer at some point.
My fear that the 4 cyl glow system/relay wouldn't run the 5 cyl engine was
wrong. it works perfectly. I just ganged #'s 4 and 5........
