As surmised , the very same day that Tom Hansen told me he'd shipped my four new keys , SWMBO called me @ work to let me know she'd found my Coupe's key under the bed ~ apparently I'd left it in my pants back pocket & washed them , when I carried the dry clothes into the bedroom for sorting & folding @ 0-Dark:30 the key dropped to the floor and I kicked in under the bed....

Oh well .

In any case , Tom's new keys cut from the master according to my VIN , fit my 387,000 + mile locks (ALL of them) like the car was new again ~ I am well pleased and got four keys delivered to my door for less than the dealer wants .

I'm driving it again and the AC is working fine , gotta love that R-12 freon . we're forecasted to be 102° F to - day .

    Congrats on reducing the current drain by cleaning the connections. 
 
    Since your's is a 1982, it's got parallel glowplugs, rather than the serial circuit of earlier cars. 
 
    The 'dead' glowplug light on the dash is a DESIGNED IN indicator.  When it fails to light, it's telling you that at least two of your glowplugs have failed (gone open).  When two or three go bad, then you will automatically have trouble starting (remember what the glowplugs are for). 
 
    Ask me how I know - mine is a 1981, 300SD.  Same engine that you've got.  With a lot of cranking, it would light off even into the Los Angeles winter (cooler than Houston summer).  But as soon as I put new glowplugs in, the dashboard light came back on and the engine now starts in about 1/4 turn.

Periodically, I suffer from the same disease in Mary, never in Martha. I anxiously wait to hear your solution to this problem.

[diesel_mercedes] New Seats

 

I finally gave up stitching up my own seats in my 300 CD coupe and took it to a shop and got new seats. My interior was dark blue. He did all of the seats for $1200 and they look fantastic. I don't know what he did to the seat springs and padding but it is like sitting in a new car.

Question though. Where could I find the plastic trim covers for the outside seat buckets. Mine are all broken and shot and I need new ones now that my seats are like new. Thanks for any suggestions.
