Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Full heat on all settings except max cold - 84 300D

I'm interested in your solution because mine is also blasting hot air - with a one year old monovalve. I'll have to fiddle around too. But, with cold weather it is not a terrible problem right now.

To clarify, the voltage gets sent to monovalve when temp dial is set to max cold, but any other setting and no voltage is ever sent to monovalve.

Could it be:

- cabin temp sensor - $30
- vent temp sensor - $30
- "amp" control unit (silver box) - $125
- pushbutton unit - $175

Don't know which one(s) would cause this problem.

New monovalve. System sends full voltage to it only when temp dial is set to max cold. Anything else and it's full hot all the time, even if I set the dial to as cold as it will go without crossing the detent to max cold.

OK my 84 300D is putting out full heat constantly on all settings except max cold. It is drawing air past the sensor. I put a hair dryer on the sensor to heat it up, no change. I guess it could be the sensor if I was lucky. Anyone know the next culprit? I'm guessing it would be the part referred to as the temp regulator unit, or amp, or whatever, the $125 silver box under the dash? Anyone had experience with this? I guess it could also be the pushbutton box with the temp wheel. I don't know how all this stuff works together. Thanks for your help.

Car performed wonderfully, (except the cruise control) 2500 miles in 5 1/2
days of driving. Woulda been better if Nate would have shown up to do the
driving.
It is warm, the beer is cold, the bikinis tiny, and we have a great suite in
an old hotel in the heart of old town.
Still rinsing the road rash off, & looking forward to doing some cruising
around the area in a few weeks when we can sit comfortably on our tired
butts.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Gremlin Hunt

Thanks Brian...that's sort of why I figured the issue is somewhere along the wiring that ends up at fuse 15...the two obvious symptoms (rear dome, and now rear left door light) are on the same fuse...

But I'm still a total beginner...so I guess I need to start understanding "relays" now ;) and continue the hunt....

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Gremlin Hunt

You will notice from the fuse card, that some fuses actually control up to 5 functions on your car. The reds are usually one function (a headlight for instance) but the whites can control several functions (horn, backup light, antenna, etc). Today, I saw my horn fuse was fried and by replacing it, I also cured some interior lighting issues.

Yesterday I changed out the entire fuse box, and even with all the fuses out, the test light still had a slight glow.

Does this mean I have a short?  A loose ground wire?  (this is me sorta talking out my bum)

My symptoms (that I know of) are:

Rear dome wouldn't shut off (it's now unplugged)
Front dome is sketchy (sometimes it works, sometimes not)
Antenna will not retract
Door lights may stay on (hard to test since in daylight they're out of sight when door is shut)

Which are all on fuse #15, which didn't make the light go out when I pulled it...

Things that are "working" on this fuse are:
Trunk light works
passenger vanity light works (driver side doesn't have cover to lift and activate it, so it's always off...don't know how test for sure)
warning monitor term (I don't know what this is)

How do I even begin to troubleshoot this?  I don't want to ruin my new battery (or be caught uncharged again)...

I *really* need a manual.....

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Parasitic Battery Draw

Thanks Nate! I'll keep hunting...

And also a good tip to skip calling...I was getting ready to call around (and I HATE calling!)

Was going to do the coolant flush n fill today but we got hit with a morning snow storm, but the sun is popping so I hope to get to it this afternoon.

If not, I can still play with my instrument cluster problems :)

Happy Saturday everyone!
