Those front brakes are called " Dual Leading Shoe " and it's *very* important you get all the shoes re lined with full length lining .
Dual Leading Shoe brakes , when they're properly set up , work amazingly well but can be a PITA to properly bleed out .
My '59 Metropolitan Nash Fixed head Sports Coupe has these too and for some foolish reason , the bleeder screws are on the _bottom_ brake cylinders meaning you cannot possibly bleed them normally , you have to back fill the system from the bleeder screws .

-=0=- Sludge Crud Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: crud, alge , smudge filters/separato
Because of the bus air brake and suspension system, I carry alcohol, for dewatering the air system, about once a year I dump some into the fuel tank, this takes the water into solution and mixes it with the diesel. I add aprox 1% to the fuel, my water separator has never shown a drop of water.

Water is not a problem at all with this system because water and diesel do not mix, I have a giant filter/separator with a see tru bowl with a drain. I did find papers that came with my 4-spd that showed the PO had a problem with water in the fuel , had the car towed and had a very large filter/separator installed that probably holds a pint or more of water. It is installed before the other two filters. Great idea. Extra filter and water separator. I know for a fact in the bottom of my big 300 gallon tank there is a lot of gunk. Whenever I pump new fuel I try and not run it for a while to let it settle. NOt so in cars or anything that gets driven. Tomorrow I am gonna get help to put A battery in my 240 auto and drive it at least to the mail box. Chase the mice out of the car and run it a little. Anyone got anything to trade?. max

Welcome to the group!
Sounds like you have a nice set of projects to work on.
Do you have any pics of the 190Db?

[diesel_mercedes] Now have a window winder mechanism.
Thank you Nate, your directions made it much easier to pull the window wind mechanism from the bear wagon. I brought the drivers side door home, for practising. Got the liner off and the mechanism out & tested. Should be pretty straight forward to install it in my car now & have the spare nylon clips from the old door if some break.

I did that job on my 1959 190D. Two wheel cylinders on each side on the front. Cylinders do not go all the way tru. I could not buy rear shoes so I had mine re-bonded. All my cylinders were good, just had to hone and install new rubber parts. Do you have pics of your Chevy truck? Max

[diesel_mercedes] SOLD!
Sob...or Yipee! Not sure which. I just sold my beloved "Rusty" (named after Ann Margaret) 1981 Mercedes Benz 300D with the turbo motor/trans. I sure took a beating on the deal, but it appears I got taken on the car and motor anyhow, so in a way it's good riddance. I no longer will sigh as I drive past her each day in my Nissan..that has a/c and cruise control (and a freaking electrical issue where it sets the security system when it feels like it, locking down the motor!).
I let her go for $700 which includes the original motor. On top of that I'm being a really good seller, Kevin offered to let him borrow a flat bed car hauler from work. He can get the motor while he's there. In a few hours my car will be gone to it's new home.
The ironic part...within the last year we saw a little 240 for sale. I can't remember why we didn't get out to look at it. This guy did and he had the audacity (grin) to drive it out here yesterday!
I did learn a lot about my car. For one thing it has blow by, really bad. Which he feels is why I'm losing so much oil...like 5 quarts in 35 miles. Also when I swapped out the original motor for the turbo I should have also done the radiator and oil cooler. Plus a whole lot more. Oh well.
Maybe down the road I can buy a car from my buyer. He buys and fixes them up, has been doing it for 45 yrs. Really nice guy. Very knowledgeable. I know one thing for sure, I will not have another knee jerk reaction when I buy my next car, no matter what kind it is! Take a deep breath, take the emotion out of it, look, listen, think, walk away, then think and research.
I'll probably stay in the group just to read all of the "stories".
