Cleaned out and replaced the piece of hose I tore taking it out. Problem is
between outlet and tank. How do you clean that? Cleared up small blockage to
the dongle. Passage to tank is blocked but won't hold a vacuum. I did drive
the car a hundred miles without venting cap. Not a good situation. How to
clean is the problem. As far as I know it's all metal pipe up to the top of
tank. Is there another hose I can clean out? Lawrence Rhodes

[diesel_mercedes] Soggy Mats
So ;
I'm back to poor drainage of the AC's evaporator try again in two of my Mercedes W-123's .
To - day on another forum a member mentioned tinkering with this and posted pictures , I've been poking at junkyard cars trying to figure out the " Flat Rate " repair method here and I'm pretty sure step # 1 is remove the driver's seat completely so you can lie on your left side....
I'm hoping to be able to reach in under the dashboard after removing all the left side under panels and carpeting etc. , but -not- removing the entire dashboard .
Whew ~ this isn't going to be a fun job atall but I bet I figure out how to fix it once and for all .

Earbuds don't stay in place eiher .

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Dash board messages
The brake lining wear lamp is for the front brakes , after you've replaced the front pads , top up the brake fluid but NOT before ! .
Poor grounds often cause those lamp defective lights to come on , have your freindly Mercedes Dealer rip his hair out over those .
Or , simply remove all the running lamps and check to ensure they're matched left to right as using an off brand replacement bulb often fools the warnng light to remain on .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Too Hot
Maybe so ;
Of course I chose the first day of the two week heat wave to begin repairs on the left fron suspension of my Metropolitan Nash Fixed HeadSports Coupe......
WHEW .
When I finished the left side , I told Tom I'll wait a bit before dipping in to the right side .
Since it's been so beastly hot & humid , I stopped driving my freezing cold R-12 charged Mercedes Sports Coupe and drove my old 2/60 equipped tuck instead .

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Remembering Air Conditioning
Did it have the rear jump seats ? .
I well remember those old trunk mounted AC units , as long as the original body seals held up they worked great .
Remember in 1953 Caddy Grilles all got " Dagmars " : two HUGE chrome bullets , named after a busty Actress at the time .

[diesel_mercedes] R e: Swamp Coolers & AC
Oh yes !these worked a fair treat in the dry and arid SouthWest but anywhere humid , they were worthless .
They're making them again , maybe I should try one in my old pickup truck .
As much as I like the cold air , I'd be happy with a simple Auto dehumidifier blowing dry air on me when I soaked in sweat .

Actually this little rectangular marvel is pretty similar to the ones in 1967 or so except it doesn't use those stupid 9 volt batteries .
I had the basic AM types before then but now I like to listen to Prarie Home Companion so FM is a must .
Anyone here who has tinnitus , try a pocket radio turned so low you really have to strain to hear it , this will clear your mind and allow sleep to come quicker than you think .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Air Breather Mounting Bracket
I'll stick my neck out and assume you're talking about the air filter 'T' bracket here , the darn things crack and break welds etc. like mad on some cars .
I'v bought new ones but the old unbroken ones I find in the junkyards seem to last longer .
Sometimes you can have the cracks and breaks welded up , I said _WELDED_ not brazed so if they hand you back your bracket with yellow welds , tell them they can keep it and walk away , it's junk now .
ALL those hard to reach 8MM bolts are necessary ! failure to install that hard to reach one in the down facing 'T' bracket leg , gaurantees failure .
8MM Flat washers underneath each bolt too .
ALL 5 cylinder Diesels use the same bracket , prolly the 4 cylinder cars too ~ I've changed dozens over the last few years of Mercedes Diesel ownership , now I'm replacing the tiny engine $hock Ab$orber$ and the air cleaner isn't as blurry at idle as it used to be , maybe this is the final key .
When you order up the three new rubber mounts , be sure to order up the octagonal ones as they're better & stronger than the simple round ones are . only one Dollar more each one .
Also , use the stamped sheet metal " heat shields " ~ cup shaped things that go between the 'T' bracket and each of the three rubber mounts .
I also take the time to install a 6MM nut and flat washer underneath each rubber mount to prevent it from unscrewing off the 'T' bracket .
I hope this helps....

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Slow & ac
Thanks for the idea, but he's really wanting a truck....so he can drag home more stuff! I'd go for the Toyota for him as he'd be able to afford to come home every day and with 4x4 no problem on the muddy driveway!
I also have a 1985 4wd Toyota Tercell for sale, sunroof, ac, ect. , if you would rather. It's hot here too, been gettin up to the high 70's, hot for September. Has been frost in the neighborhood. max

[diesel_mercedes] Bear essentials wagon.
Went and scooped the drivers side door on the world famous bear wagon,
will practice taking the door panel off, also took the cruise control motor and the control module - am determined to get cruise working.
grabbed a full length rear bumper rubber, mine is about a foot short.
Sorry Nate the middle seat head rest was gone already. I can get the 4 wheels for $50 total, if anyone wants them, the two I could see looked very good.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] general question re g-vagens
Do any of you ever come across g-wagens with bad motors for sale? After watching the video posted about a week ago, i did a little research. It seems that they came with almost every engine offered by MB including the 5 cyl diesel 617. On a side note, it is really a mind-bending experience to be tuned into streaming radio from Norway or Germany while cruising around. I have the cheapest smart phone and $35/mo plan and I can do this and play it through my car stereo. --- On Mon, 9/17/12, max_stemple <jasperezra@gmail.com> wrote:
