I think it really varies from one make to the next.  I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey van, which has a transmission drain plug (but not a filter!!).  Despite having a drain plug, there are so many nooks and crannies in the A/T that draining it out by the plug only empties a little over half of the fluid.

The official Honda procedure is to drain and fill, run it a little, and repeat three times.  So at the end you have 7/8ths new fluid (or 15/16ths new fluid; I forget if you do three or four drains/refills).  Seems like an odd design to me, but that's what is in the factory manual.

Yea, what about this "backflushing" thing we hear about now. I am fairly new to automatic transmissions. My Subaru is a auto and I'm wondering about this in lew of changing the filter. Also isnt it true on some cars(most) you can't even get all the old oil out of the trans. The Mercedes has a plug to pull on the torque converter, so if we drain that and the pan do we get most all out? But what about cars that dont have those drains? Max

1. ordered a new antenna yesterday (Thurs) and the package arrived at the house today. (fri) and that is with standard ground (read free) shipping. and yes I purchased the hirschmann power one. $$$.
Partsgeek.com they must have a warehouse in no texas.
no excuse not to put it in this weekend.
2. radiator expansion tank had water below it, but I snugged up hose and tightened the clamp, and for 3 days, no water! more money saved.

Do I need to find a place that will replace the trans filter, or is the machine evac and replace method ok?

"Battery" acid is sulfuric acid, not hydrochloric! Hydrochloric is actually stomach acid!

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : ATTN : TRISH !

Oh gross.  But in some cultures they do eat dog and cat.

Some think it's wrong to eat a cow, others think it's wrong to eat a pig.  I've been told "it's just wrong" that I raised chickens for food. This from someone that admitted to eating chicken. Her excuse was she "didn't know them".

Oh geez. Only the rooster has a name...it's Cogburn of course.  All of the others are just chicken.  The rabbits only had names so we could distinguish who was who, and they had ear tattoos just in case...think about a barn full of rabbits around 100 at any given time...if for some freak reason more than one got out of a cage, how do you know who's who? A white rabbit looks like any other white rabbit.  Sure I could tell the bucks from the does or the colors apart.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : Acid

I got the recipe off of Mother Earth News!

I've seen other methods that use salt, smoke, brains (ewww, they have to be mixed in a food processor first) all sorts of ways to tan hides.

I've had the same box of battery acid for years.  It only takes a bit, with a LOT of water and salt.

I'm not very good at tanning the hides.  I put them in the solution then forget about them...they have to be stirred 2x a day for 3 days before the next step.  I've managed to get one perfect pelt done, then Kevin gave it to someone that said it was "cool"!  I was astonished.  I worked so hard on it.  It is a PITA to do.

Those easly typ primer pumps can give you fits but they work better than the black handle types IMO , too bad they're discontinued now , I got lucky and receved one ' by accident ' , declined to return it .
