I have a 1980 240D with auto. I am having a terrible time getting it to
shift right. There is no throttle connection to the tranny. It is all
vacuum control - at least that's how I understand it. It would hold the
1 -2 shift until high rpm, even with east throttle - very annoying. I
finally disconnected the vacuum completely. Now, with extremely easy
throttle, it shifts beautifully. But, if I use any throttle at all, it
flares terribly.
There doesn't seem to be a vacuum diagram for this model anywhere. I've
looked.
Any ideas?

You use Propane? Switch to Nitro and it will kick in at 4200.
