FWIW ;
It's been in the low 30° F's of late so I was interested in my cold start drill , I leave the glow plugs on after the lamp goes out , about 25 seconds total glow time (lamp goes out in 15 seconds) and it lights off in 1/2 revolution of the engine with 1/3 throttle .
I do need to keep it idling by applying *slight* pressure to the foot feed .
If you're in cold weather country , try timing your glow plugs ~ they heat until the relay makes a loud 'CLICK' so practicing to not use the starter until *just* before the relay clicks off , will ensure rapid cold starting well below freezing .
Remember to _not_ let off the starter until it's running on all cylinders ! .

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Milage Check 1984 300CD Auto AC Not Used
300 miles
23 MPG (sigh)
$4.099 per gallon (ouch)
This car has smoked a bit since the engine overhaul , Tom followed me through the canyons Saturday and says every time I hit the foot feed , even slowly , it smoked grey/black so I guess I'll have to yank the injectors and test them ~ if they're good it's injection pump time....

[diesel_mercedes] Re: W-111 Mercedes Coupe On FLEA-BAY !
I guess ;
Bad wood , rust , broken lamps and rotted leather......
I can't see $7K and it's not hit his reserve yet...
The charity bullshit car is SHILL BID ~ go look at the bidding , it's 100 % bullshit , I see the same two bidders against other charity cars .
Yes , a wonderful car but I'm glad I stopped looking for a W-111 Coupe and got a W-123 instead , a better car IMO .

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Gonna hit a Las Vegas PAP tomorrow.
Have fun , there's TWO ~ one in North Las Vegas on whatis name Blvd . take the I-15 No. to the blvd. exit & turn right ,it's about two blocks down on the left .
Mercedes are all in the extreme left rear corner , long walk but I usually find something .
The Henderson on one Smiley Road is off Boulder Highway , take the new freeway to it's end and turn left , P-A-P is a block or two on the left IIRC , back from the main road one block , easy to miss .
I need some older Mercedes horns , the ones with _screws_ around the perimeter holding them to-gether , as long as the wires unscrew O.K. (don't loose the screws & washers !) I don't care if they toot as I can easily rebuild them .I'll buy 1 or 6 , on older 'Benz but occasionally on newer ones too.... the face will be smooth & have holes or slots , not like the std. W-116/W-123 & W-126 horns.
I also need some Euro bumpers & parts therin if they're dented so give me a call if you find any .
_Amber_ turn signal lenses for W-123's , no broken tabs please ! .
Remove with _care_ =8-) .one or pairs , grab all you find , the bulb holders and all , try not to drop the special star washers underneath the thumb wheels .
Wagon taillight lenses if in good shape , minor sun cracks O.K. , no impact cracks / breaks please ! .
Look at _ALL_ the W-126's , if the Monovalve's dome isn't rusty / cruddy , it's been replaced , just take the top off and grab the cylinder if it's not rotted rubber .
IIRC ; a 5 MM allen key gets you the vacuum pump , plus you'll need two thin open ended wrenches to loosen the metal vacuum pipe , I forget what size , maybe 21 MM ? . I use stubby Crescent Wrenches .

SCORE!!
Got what looks like a fresh Vac pump - all shiny like ;-} a radio antenna, & an electric water pump at the PAP for $32 and the innards of a mono valve from a yard around the corner for $20, now I can stuff em in to the car when we get back to Canader, after it warms up a bit. Max how cold is it?
Spent today cruising around Zion National Pk, fresh snow early this morning, so the trees and rocks were gorgeous.

Hey, I got tossed out of the Ponton group. A bunch of snobby easterners. Ha, Ha, guess I fit in better with these low class west coast diesel heads. Max
