Silly question so bear with me O.K. Mark ? .

Are you sure it's the park brake warning light ?. that's red, there's a brake system light next to it that's yellow and I have the devil of a time keeping that one dark on my grey market wagon....

After a few stops it goes out but I'd rather it never came on .

Just thinking outside the box as you had the hydraulic system apart and that's a common result .

On my '77, the pad wear light is red and it has a ring of outward-pointing little black dashes around it. That one lights sometimes, then slowly fades out. I suspect pads saturated with something slightly conductive. As they warm, they become less conductive and the light slowly extinguishes.
I never had any bleeder screws open, but when pumping the pedal to get the caliper piston free, I was wondering if there was a safety valve in the system like on some American cars. If the pressure in the system is unbalanced, it makes the brake light come on, then you have to open a bleeder on the opposite end of the car, pump lightly until the light just goes out.
Reading on these cars, that does not seem to be the case. The bright red brake warning light is connected to the parking brake and to a float in the master cylinder.
What I think I should do it disconnect the master cylinder float switch and see if that makes the light go out. If not, it is the PB switch.
But now, how does one access the parking brake switch? It looks to be way up on top pf the mechanism.
Got in it today and it never acted up. Supposed to warm up this weekend. But I'm heading off to Denver.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Diesel Engine Failure

Wow. Good info. I trust this guy. The shop I worked in back in the 70's in Oregon, was Vw, Mercedes and Volvo. Kind of like Muldoon's out in Arizona. Anyway the guy had a Vw piston, #3 in the window for viewing, yep had the valve stuck to it. Any old Vw mechanic has seen that. I wonder how many guys on this list have taken their injectors out, or even know how to time one of these engines. I learned that once, but have forgotten. Used a coke bottle and a vinyl tube, hooked up to #1 injector line on the pump and blew. The idea was to just hang a bubble in the coke bottle with water in it. Something like that. I have never done anything to any of my Mercedes injectors. I don't think I have that much energy anymore. Max
