We went to both Anaheim and Stanton today after work.
No 123s at Anaheim.  2 at Stanton, 1 300D, 1 300TD, pretty picked over, yet 1 had a window regulator for me. Mainly, we went to check for Volvo parts for my wife's '85 240 Volvo, and found some parts, though there was a nice looking '85 240 sitting in the soon to be added lot, so we'll be checking the website and be back soon.

Nate, you are a walking encyclopedia!!!

Will try the startron first, then if no joy will yank the sender tube. How you have learned this stuff amazes me. Thank you for the tip. It could well be a bit of fungus among us, in Mexico we never fill the tank we always put in a set amount just to keep the honest pump attendants honest. Crossed the border & filled up in Tucson and whooops. No sign of any gunk in the clear primary strainer I installed, so it is pretty localized. 
Snow here, so we are in shock, 12 days ago we were swimming in the ocean at Mazatlan.

That's an electronic one , correct ? .

Most Pick-A-Part yards now offer an additional paid for warranty but it's only good for 30 days IIRC so you'll have to go yank one  out and install it straightaway then drive it to check , then remove it again the next day if bad....

Once you've removed the binnacle once or twice  it's a five minute or less job.....

To help make it easier to select the correct speedo head , Mercedes had VDO put the part # on the face of it where at a glace you can see if it's the right one or move on to the next junked W-126..... other gauges might be different but the speedo head proper may well interchange , I know it does in W-123's .

You can try Don @ Speedy Speedometer Service in......?Donwey? tell him I sent you but it'll be over $100 in any case , prolly upwards of $150 , you can ask him for a $ break before he begins because it's just an old car , he knows I'm a tightwad and some times declines my jobs so no harm in asking .

I have no idea how so many of you can stand having an unworking odometer .

Tom says ' you can't stand unworking or dirty _anything_ ! ' .

Thank you Bill ! .

However , I'm a cheapskate , er YANKEE THRIFTY (yeah , that's it) so $100 or more isn't going to make me happy for an item usually tossed in the scrap bin .

I can get a pristine one for $100 only 20 miles away from the local curbstoner junk guy , no dice .

I know there's one out there for me in some hulk..... I was just beating the bushes here , sooner or later someone will relaize that it's only $2 worth of scrap metal and sell me one for $30 or so .....
