My wife came home and told me the car was making a weird noise. I went
out to look and OMG that is the most awful noise I have ever heard from
a car.
The video pretty much enplanes it all. Its last "LOF" was about 4k miles
ago, I don't know how much L is included in the LOF, but it was at a non
dealer Mercedes Benz friendly shop, where the car was always serviced
before I got it.
Also, as said in the video, the "front end" was rebuilt @ 298k miles in
10/09.
upper/lower control arms/bushings, tie rods, idler arm.

Check your flex disks. When they went bad I swore the sound was coming from the right rear, even though it was actually coming from the middle of the vehicle.

My 300D is making a loud thumping noise from the right rear of the car. It first started on the free way. When i pulled off the road to look under the car there was nothing amiss. When i got back on the road the noise took awhile to start back up again. The back right CV boot does have some grease on it but the boot it self is in good shape. Also it's not a clicking sound like you hear from the front CV joint it's more of a thumping sound.
any ideas
Thanks

They can be affected by heat. It's a place to start. Suspect everything.

Thanks Stan, but if it was a Separated belt or a bulge would you not hear it all the time?
Steve
Suspect a separated belt on the rear tire or other bulge.

[diesel_mercedes] Diesel purge. DUH! 83 240D.
Well after replacing all the glowplugs and checking the glow relay and replacing
it it (it did have a burned contact surface) turned out the hard starting was
just a case of needing a diesel purge. The German stuff. One treatment. Now
she starts with out any pedal right away and idles nicely. Sheesh. How to do
diesel purge. Bring up the inlet to the motor and the return. Put the diesel
purge in a class bottle so you can see the inlet tube in the bottom of the
liquid. Run car till all is used. About 15 minutes. Don't let any air in the
lines. I cap off the line from the tank. Replace and run after to make sure no
bubbles are in the system. Enjoy better performance & starting.Lawrence

high beam, battery, and a circle with dashes aroung it. What is this third indicator and what does it mean when it starts to flash or come on intermittantly.
thanks, Nick
