Re: [diesel_mercedes] Turbo Overhaul

I started w/ Bead blaster, then the hammer, then a torch, to a grinder on one, and sawzall on the other.
Both stuck bolts loosened when partly cut through, and came completely out in the end.
The turbo was out of the car.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Battery Failed

Maybe they would have stolen your old battery and saved you that lifting. And yes, those suckers are very, very, very heavy.

Subject: [diesel_mercedes] Battery Failed

After a long day , just as the sin began to set I tried to start my 300CD to move it off the street , I got a groan from the starter then every light on the dashboard went dark , I released the key and the voltage gauge came back on reading 7.013 VDC so I knew the battery was kaputi .

Popped the trunk and grabbed the original tool kit , popped the hood and using the 10 & 13 MM open ended wrenches i had the battery out in a trice , schlepped it over to my Metropolitan Nash FHC (boy howdy , Diesel batteries are _heavy_) and headed off to Wallymart who I know stocks the correct battery for the right price.....

The _only_ battery they didn't have in stock was their # H-8.....

Damn , I'd gone two towns away and no battery .

On my way home I remember there's an AutoZone store on Lake Av. , popped in and Lo ! they had _three_ different grade H-8 batteries in stock , the H-8-DLG was even rated @ 900 CCA , the stock battery is rated 750 CCA so I grabbed this one , it has a no hassle three year free replacement guarantee , all for (gasp,OUCH) $144.99 (there goes my food budget) , this plus a set of those nifty anti-corrosion felt washers and tax set me back $ 161.56 out the door , shlepped back home and installed the battery , it roared to life (whew) , I parked it inside the yard , put my Metropolitan FHC behind it , took a bath and passed out .

This morning , I can't find the dang keys but at least I didn't leave it street parked where the local hoods would have trashed it .

Now to find and duplicate my spare key .
