Re: [diesel_mercedes] Wasted European W-116

Yeah . . . that was hard to watch.
But . . . The engine and tranny had been removed as evidenced by the height of the body above the front tires. And it was a raw propane fed fire. But from time to time they showed shots of the paint blistering which backs up something I say to people who scoff at my boringly reliable 32 year old German wagon - "My paint is superior to your steel.".

And if the scoffers happen to be in a Jeep, I remind them that the company that built my car now owns the company that built theirs. And as a result of that one fact, America now has a remote chance of building cars that have a possible chance to live as long as my rolling German iron. But they will likely not look as good nor be as reliable at 30 years old.

Then I purrrrrrrrr away to the unmistakable melody of a 3 liter 5 cylinder German oil burner.

But it was still hard to watch.
Bogy.

[diesel_mercedes] Wasted European W-116

[diesel_mercedes] '92 300D headlight

My left headlight lens is dirty on the *inside* reducing its effectiveness. I'm assuming that since new lens can be purchased that I can disassemble the headlight and clean the lens and reflector. I also assume that there should be some kind of gasket or seal between the lens and housing. I've found such seal for other models but not for mine. Any help? Thanks.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] '92 300D headlight

What if one were to pick up some 'chrome paint' at the auto store?
I bought a can, thinking I could respray once removed.
I realize it won't have nearly the reflective quality of a proper plating, but thought it could be a relatively inexpensive DIY fix.

Has anyone ever tried this?

I would personally not touch the reflector. See warning at:
