Re: [diesel_mercedes] Glow plug question

Like others said, check the relay fuse, which is just a metal strip,
then use a multi-meter to check each glow plug. You can check the glow
plugs at the relay by removing the the large plug on top of the relay,
and check each individual socket/glowplug for Ohms. It should be
obvious. Usually, the good one's will show full open "0" and a few will
show something else. Some like to change them all at the same time,
other's just replace the bad one's and keep some spares in the trunk.
Bosch are good, avoid Autolite.

Valves have been adjusted within last 1000 miles so I know it is not that. Fuel filter also changed 100 miles ago. Car is smoking so I know she is getting Fuel.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Yahoo Screwing Up Again !

I saw your response, but it was blank!

DI is Marines.  He was in the Army.  Drill Sergeant...same thing I guess.

Yep, he was in for 8 long years.  Got out right after Desert Storm, kept his mouth shut and his head down!  They would have brought him right back to train more troops.

He spent the first few years in Germany.  When someone says it's cold he laughs..."Cold is when you're in a fox hole and crying from the cold but the tears are freezing on your face"

For some odd reason they managed to entice him to re-up for another 4 yrs.  They baited him with Drill Sergeant school.

My favorite story is when a radio went missing, he waited till everyone was in deep sleep, tossed a metal trash can in the middle of the barracks, made them come out in what they were wearing (boxers, briefs, whatever) to roll in the sand pit until he was bored.  He let them go back in with the PROMISE that if the radio didn't show up, it was going to happen again.  He went back in...moments later there was a timid knock at his door...he took his time getting there and lo and behold there was the missing radio! :)

But don't let that Drill Sergeant past fool you.  He's really the softest hearted MAN on the planet...When I brought home the 1960's movie "Incredible Journey" within the first 15 mins he was crying.  That's a REAL man. :)

Well I let it go last year, because the man was up to his ears in legal stuff (pot patch and bear feeding) A month ago I called him & he told me that he had sent the car to a wrecker, but did not know which one. Today we started driving around to wreckers looking for the car, we found it. Now for the bad stuff, the wrecker loaned it to a charity, who sold for a $ or 2 the privilege of whacking the car with a sledge hammer. There is no glass anywhere, the radio is gone, and the body is pretty beat up. Under the hood looks ok, seats not bad, I can get the parts I need pretty reasonably, and have about 1 month before they crush it. I understand the engine/trans is good it has the same style wheels (cannot remember the name) that Nate got painted a few years back. they look good, bumpers were beaten off the car. If any one needs some bits, shoot me a note, I want the cruise mod, the window crank the antenna if it matches, the water pump and other odments.

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Glow plug question

Inside the left front fender panel is a rectangular box with a snap off lid ~

This is the glow plug relay and one end will have two phillips screws holding a thin metal 50 Ampere (IIRC) fusible link ~ test this with your test light first , both sides must be live .

Then wriggle the plug to ensure it's well connected....

Once in a while the relay goes kaputi , most often the phillips screws get loose or corroded .

[diesel_mercedes] OFF TOPIC- HURRY DELETE!!!!!

While  contemplating selling my Diesel Mercedes Benz in order to buy a better one I was given some helpful advice.

A dear friend of mine, David from Bluebonnet Pet Cemetery had four heart attacks a while back and can't "work".  He had the local TV station (NBC) do a story on them.  It got them back on their feet where they have stayed.  He suggested I do the same.  He's also trying to find forever homes for the majority of the rescued abused/rehabilitated dogs we have here on our farm.  Eventually I will be set up as a non-profit, David said he'd be honored to be on my board of directors!  Yay!

I am appealing to everyone to click the links and ask the local DFW TV stations to do a story on us.

USA Army Veteran Drill Sergeant trained the first troops to go to Desert Storm rescues abused/abandoned animals and rehabilitates them on his farm in Ennis,TX.  Need help to save the farm, the animals sanctuary.

Contact number is: 972-921-9527 or they can use email: purrfectharmonyfarm@wifi45.com

I can't believe that some people are blasting me for either using Kevin's Veteran status to "guilt" people into helping...if they have guilt it's on them, I'm not putting it there.

I'm PROUD of him for his service.  I'm proud of my great grandfather for dying for us in the Civil War. I'm proud of my dad (and his brother) for enlisting during WWII and my sister and her husband for enlisting, although neither of them were sent to Vietnam for various reasons.  I myself did ROTC then realized it wasn't for me! :)

I've also been blasted for "choosing" to be a rescue (Darn me for having a conscience and NOT ignoring a dog dumped on the road in 105 degree temps or on our farm).  I've also been blasted for posting to a specific face book page (Diving Rebels SCUBA).

I was a SCUBA diver until the crash of the I.T. industry in 2001.

Some have even chastised me for selling my top of the line SCUBA gear for next to nothing...sold a $500+ Mares octopus/gauge/regulator for $125,  sold my $770 Zeagle Ranger BCD for $130, meeting someone today to sell them another $300 worth of gear for $100...hey, to me it's just stuff.

"A bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush"...well, a few hundred bucks is worth more to me than all of that gear sitting in my shed for the last 13 years.  Besides with the way airlines charge these days, who wants to drag all that gear around when you can rent when you get there?  Even my real life (as opposed to online) professional diving friends don't drag their gear around, they learned decades ago to rent.

So anyhow...if I can get people to take a few minutes of their time to click the links and tell them about us, it might help.  Can't hurt.

I appreciate it.  The dogs thank you..well, they would if they weren't so busy sniffing each other! :)
