[diesel_mercedes] FW: 300SL resurrected, 107 design and more!

Dear Warren,

One unintended consequence of California's ongoing drought has been the extension of our touring season. My drive north to the Point Reyes National Seashore on Thanksgiving day took place under flawless skies and 70 odd degrees.

The trip north would have been more interesting were I aboard the lowered Euro 1972 350SL 4-speed we restored a few years ago rather than my comfy but dull C320 wagon. Unfortunately, the 350SL now resides in Canada. I'm a massive fan of the original small bumper 107s and we explore the evolution of that design in this edition.

Another car that I wouldn't mind having in the warehouse would have to be the brutally weathered 300SL roadster I uncovered in 2008. Perversely gorgeous, that grim SL would look stunning hanging on the wall. The current owner had a slightly different although entirely sensible plan, however.

Drifting a 300TD wagon sounds absolutely absurd and would seem to require gear oil to be spread on the tarmac to allow meaningful sideways motoring. The Black Smoke TD defies description but is well and truly a monster drifter with a shrieking turbo diesel under the hood...

Regards,

Roy Spencer, editor MercedesHeritage

Lawrence,

If you buy this new radiator, you should probably get the new pads that were listed way down in the first eBay listing someone posted.

Turns out ORilleys carrys this part but it is a drop shipped item.  It's also all metal.  However it says it only fits a 1981 300td.  Mine is a 80. Other websites say it fits all w123's. What is the difference?  Can't be much.  I feel I should buy it and shoehorn it in.  Lawrence Rhodes
