Ya got me. I have no idea how small a 4 cyl MB engine can be. The only one I have is 2.3 liters, could likely power a genset big enough for a small apartment building. 100 amp service means everything on the line can draw up to 100 amps, has near enough to nothing to do with KW/hrs. you are using. My little diesel genset is a 5kw unit, rated to put out 52 amps at full speed. There is a handy gizmo available from Amazon called a Kill-A-Watt meter, you can plug it in to a wall fixture, plug about anything you are using into the meter, it will provide real time read out of watts, amps, KW/hrs, that the device is using, depending on your menu choice. Cost about 20 bucks.. Got to confess total ignorance of RV power usage. bk --- On Mon, 6/27/11, audiolaw@aol.com <audiolaw@aol.com> wrote:

Could you please expand upon your claims/ideas. I mean these things spend months on container ships at constant revs and are designed for the volume entailed. 2-5 kw would depend on the size of the area to be accomodated and of course the ambient temperatures to contend with for the duration and the degree of insulation of the area being heated or cooled. When referring to KW is that max effect or constant and is that peak or KWH - sheesh! Sorry it's been a really bad day...

Naw, it's too big, is my point, regardless of what it's attached to. You do this kind of calculation backward, figure out how many KW/hrs you require, then how big a gen head to get those numbers, then how big (small) and engine to fit to do the job. For the above mentioned tasks, 2-5 kw, perhaps 250-500 cc engine... Got one 5k gen powerd by a 5 hp B&S (don't know the displacement), and another powered by a 440cc diesel single...The little Deutz engine runs a 120v single phase gen head, the B&S does single phase 120 or 240..
bkI agree exactly with you design idea. No idea how to compare reefer output to KW, KW/hrs, which would imply the thing is driving generator, not a reefer..
No worries, I get days like that too...

Ah, someone else reads eham net... That thing is likely too big for a single family residence, unless you're Algore. Something in the 2-5 KW range is what you need, and will use a lot less expensive fuel. Also, diesels are unhappy running at less than, say, 85% of full throttle, which this unit would likely never have to..

[diesel_mercedes] Martha vs Mary
Went to Las Vegas from La Verne (30 miles east of LA). Get there on 3/5's a tank of fuel, and get back on 3/5's a tank - which means I should fix my odometer so I can be more specific. I am equally astounded that Martha uses no oil - no oil period. Doesn't drip, doesn't burn it either. After 300K, she just flat out uses no oil. I am shocked, and pleased. Course there other issues I can work on once the kinks are worked out.

[diesel_mercedes] Dextron VI Valvoline. How long. in a 240D?
I heard from a mechanic in San Diego that he let a tranny with Ames Oil fluid go
100k. I'm using Valvoline Dextron VI full synthetic. Has anyone gone the extra
mile with this fluid. How far could I go safely? Normal fluid is 30 to 35k I
think. Lawrence Rhodes.....
[diesel_mercedes] Re: Diesel Smoot On Trunk Lid
My exhaust is custom one 4" chrome tailpipe as long as bottom part of bumper, and turned down.

First things first ~ .
Check the Monovalve as it's dead about 75 % of the time , an easy fix .
Does the compressor cycle on ? (look at it , when idling , the whole front part should be spinning) if it's spinning , carefully touch the metal AC pipe across the front of the engine , if it's cool , the Freon charge is O.K. .
How you fix the AC has much to do with how well it works later - example : if the center outlets don't blow gales of air , it'll never really cool the interior well so have an indie shop (unless you're rich)fix those first .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Fuel Economy & Aerodynamics
Truth be told , Tom isn't all that big but the amount of crap he carries is _astounding_ ! WAAYYY more than I ever carry and I'm a pack rat .
Truly the improved Aerodynamics of the W-126 chassis are impressive .
I'll stick with my W-123's .
I guess I need to get back to fixing old power antennas as I don't have any more good spares .
