Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Re : Banned

couldn't he just assume a different email address and re-subscribe or are IP addresses used to identify? Seems like a minor issue to correct and them just behave oneself ;-)

BTW thanks everyone for the great advice and help over the years

Hey Nate,

I'm not sure what he was referring to regarding unwanted messages. The Yahoo system message I saw that was sent to him was triggered when he tried to send a message to the group; banned folks get an automatic message explaining that they are banned and unable to message the group. So the easy solution for not getting that message is for him to not send messages to the group, since they will always be rejected.

If he (or anyone else who has been banned) is getting unwanted messages from this group, they should contact Yahoo support. Banned members are automatically unsubscribed from the group, so they shouldn't receive messages from us (other than the rejection notice if they send the group a message).

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Re : Rules & Banned

Sure thing, Nate. We all have grumpy moments so I don't ban people lightly. In this case it was a series of ugly comments that led to the banning. Life is too short for us to listen to petty name-calling and brattiness. There's tons of that all over the internet. I like to keep this group friendly; a little break from all the spammers and trolls that love to invade online communities.

Thanks for being a part of the group!

So if they are getting messages after being banned, they are either subscribed using an additional account or Yahoo is having problems. Either way, they need to take it up with Yahoo support, nothing I can do about. Sadly, Yahoo support can't cure stupidity.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] High altitude and Naturally Aspirated Diesels?

Diesels need air, and .
I'd imagine that the W115 would be "quite slow" as your 240D was.
At that elevation, I'd get a turbo diesel, unless driving "quite slow"
is OK.

73-76 4-cyl. 240D, W115/ 62hp
73-76 5-cyl. 300D, W115/ 77hp
77-85 4-cyl. 240D, W115/ 62-67hp
77-85 5-cyl. 300D, W123/ 77-83hp
80-85 5-cyl. 300D, W123/ 118-123hp (Turbo)

I'm not sure on weight, is the W115 heavier than the W123?

The '77 240D was quite slow even at sea level, nothing else with which to compare it to know if it was running as it should. I know that Mark in Lakewood will have something to say on this one.

[diesel_mercedes] Nice poem for the Mercedes Shade Tree from Lisa

A wreck reborn, motor or new horn,
A Benz rebuilt, to the hilt, silver star
Genteel, solid steel with sex appeal,
A vintage veggie-oil-running automobile!

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Why Not Grease car ?

Nate,

I think I remember that 160 degree F. is what to try to achieve. (The oil, just before it goes into the injection pump).

Nate,

Mixes destroy diesels.

What works is to make minor changes to the car - usually called converting - which, if done correctly and if operated properly - does work.
You were lucky - you caught that the mix was about to destroy your engine before it did.  Many people did not and lost their engine to the mix.

Here's hoping you caught it in time.

I love our dedicated greasers, and I love our guys who run at the pump. May each group have a great 2013.  Query - I get 25mpg as average on my dino fuel cars, what do you greasers get in your w123's?

Nate, Not really trying to debate this, but, using your logic, if we never use grease in a car, it will never end up in the junk yard? You may be looking at a secondary result of the ownership.  Most likely frugal (cheap) people use grease, people with more income/willing to spend it don't?  I'm definitely in the frugal group, I have run WVO for probably 7-10 years.  But the first mercedes that may be scrapped is the one that never ran on WVO. I have a 300D that the temperature sensor wasn't working (5$ item).  It was okay for me to drive for years as I check the fluids and know the car.  I recently had several issues that removed my other 2 cars off the road.  My daughter and wife started driving the 300D.  The radiator overheated, melted the cooling hoses, melted the injector return hoses.  Finally, they parked it after a week of abuse saying they didn't feel safe driving it with all of the smoke. Yeah, If I win the lottery, I probably would have the mechanic fix things a little quicker.  But at least I am now assured that the 300D will never die as I have not converted it to grease.  ;^) My grease car has two tanks.  Use the proper fuel for the proper use.
