Lawrence. Is your alternator a "self exciting" alternator? Or does it
have a wire that connects the battery voltage from the ignition switch
to the "field coil". If it is the latter, make sure you are getting an
accurate battery voltage at the field coil terminal. This is what tells
the alternator to produce current or not.
By the way, you are the second primo bassoon named Lawrence that I have
known. The other was "Pride".

Lawrence,
As above, clicking on the URL didn't work. I scrolled and clicked on the picture(representing an attachment) and that worked - weird.
I agree - letting the sun shine on the meter face should not change the voltage reading.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Watch "Malfunctioning meter." on YouTube
The utube video doesn't work any better than your meter. I got my battery meter that plugs in to the cigarette lighter at Walmart. It Works fine. If you are trying to use that type of meter, is your cigarette lighter working ?

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Door locks & engine cutoff not responding.
First, the good news. My car (Mary) has been driven by me for 5-10 years with these issues, and although a PIA I am too lazy to deal with it despite having all the tools and tubing and valving to build a new system. The bad news? My wifes car (Martha) shuts off and starts up instantly and almost all of the door locks work.
MercedesSource has some good videos on the subject.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Door locks & engine cutoff not responding.
remember an engine that doesn't shut off is better than an engine that doesn't start. The first step would be to check if the engine is producing vacuum. Do your brakes work like they should? If so, you probably have vacuum but you could check it by the power brake connection. The next step is to get the vacuum line diagrams. A shop manual or the Performance Products Catalog now part of Ecklers has workable drawings. The next step would be to isolate the line feeding the door locks and block it off. If the car still won't shut off, the little valve on the ignition lock may be the culprit. Its held on with two straight screws, phillips screws would have been a help here. Make sure that you reconnect the lines to the same fittings as the original set up.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: V belt in pulley upside down.
I now know how all the v belt accessories are connected and adjusted. I removed the belt from the compressor and left it off. The new fan belt is firm in place. The old fan belt was the consistency of gummy bears. Sanded the pulleys...just a little. I do have an issue with the battery coming back up to voltage. If I made a lot of short trips the battery might have to be charged. It's taking 5 to 10 minutes of driving to get the battery back to operating voltage. New issue: Engine not turning off & door locks not responding....sigh....Lawrence Rhodes

I can only think the copious amounts of hydraulic soaking the belt caused this condition. I checked the pulleys. They are so true they looked like they were standing still. All pulleys have no obstructions. New v belt to be put in.
