Here in the Southern State we buy Nothern Cars, their motors are amost new.But
they have rust and are cheap. We repair rust and send them to Texas, where
they"ll never rust again.

Why bother repairing when you can get near perfect bodies for next to nothing.

got. Almost perfect. Lawrence Rhodes....

Re: [diesel_mercedes] (unknown)

Well, I use 2 keys in Martha. My ignition key works also for the drivers door - but not for the passenger door or trunk.  The second key works for the passenger door and the trunk - but not for the ignition or drivers door. I haven't tried to figure it out in 5 years, just notch one of the keys so I can tell the difference.  Now, as to Mary - one key fits all.

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Economy Check '82 240D Slushbox

AC on the entire tankful .

White Bottle Power Service additive used .

275 miles , 26.3 MPG .

Some idling in the driveway while I tested the Central Locking and fooled around with the _STILL_ cruddy cooling system , I've flushed the Citric Acid out FOUR TIMES and still , after a 20 minute freeway run with the heater on full blast , the water gets cruddy again , I can't even see the radiator tubes with a flashlight .

SWMBO's out of town for a week so I've been driving it and flushing once or twice daily , once the water stays clear , I'll add the ZEREX premix coolant I have in the trunk .

It appears yahoo has been preventing me from posting , quite a few replies and intial messages have been eaten by yahoo...

I'll send this one via E-Mail and see if it gets through .

Cars out West are so plentiful a used car isn't worth much. Supply and demand.
Many a beautiful body goes to the junk yard because a transmission or engine is
gone. If you have a good power train the best way to fix a rusty body is to get
one from somewhere in the rust free zone of the West and install your good parts
in it. Coastal cars do rust here so buyer beware. Lawrence Rhodes....

"Many a beautiful body goes to the junk yard because a transmission or engine is

Shewt, I've seen these cars turned in for scrap value just because they needed a brake job or a battery!  Damn cars last so long, people get tired of them.  Kid gets grandpa's old car, maybe is grateful, but wants something shiny and new, with comically-styled wheels and a bitchin' stereo.  At the first opportunity, the car is dumped at a charity, where nobody knows how to start it, and ends up at a salvage auction.  Seen it a dozen or more times, and I don't even go to the salvage auctions very much...!

(I bought my first Mercedes diesel from a such an auction.  Paid $300 dollars for a '77 300D, recently come here from Las Vegas and rust-free.  I set the valves and dropped in a strong battery in the parking lot, crank, crank, crank, crank, crank, crank....  It finally fired up, and I drove it out of there.  Even the Klima I, with aluminum-bodied servo, worked with cold, R12 AC!)
