Slightly over 3,000 miles and the sun came out and dried up my working area so I set to work on my '84 300CD.
As always anytime the hood is open I reach over and give the air cleaner housing a gentle flick to insure it's firmly in place, this time it rocked so I got out a new rubber air cleaner mount (always keep three in the glove box, it'll $ave you $) .
I know I'd checked it over the weekend but apparently the off brand mount sent to me by the Classic Center some time ago, broke and the air cleaner wobbled enough to break off the rear mounting of the steel 'T' bracket too ~ I just ordered up a new Mercedes 'T' bracket after reading on Peach Parts that the 4super cheap off brand ones don't have the holes properly located ~ $109 !. ouch .
I also discovered I didn't have any spare air filter elements and so ordered in two more .
I was *very* pleased to see when I removed the air filter housing that there was _NO_ oil leaks / mess underneath it and that tightening up the two metal taps that hold the plastic air maze inside the air filter housing, served to almost completely eliminate the usual oil mist inside the filter housing . very nice this .
Maybe next time I'll try adding a little seal 'round the meeting edges, using RTV or maybe 'The Right Stuff' .
My oil pan looks fine , clean and dry, no damage, I see the oil pan pixies have been hanging 'round though, the drain plug is partially ground away
.

I checked the power steering fluid, it's dark red and still has a -slight- smell I don't like (ATF should always smell sweet) so I removed the filter, sucked it dry, refilled with fresh ATF and the filter, buttoned it back up again .
Road ready apart from no air filter element and a broken 'T' bracket, maybe I'll drive my 240D a few dayze instead, I got some 1960's music CD's and can listen to them in it .
