Probably.  Though for much less than new, I'd try to source one from a salvage yard, if possible.  116s just don't show up in the yards like they used to.  A pump from a 107 (70's SL) should work, too.

Yes , if there's crud inside it ~ it can jamb it up .

D-Jet fuel pumps are very $pendy so I'm hesitant to suggest a new one however , at this point I'd replace it even if with a used JunkYard one , always a gamble .

Unless it's brownish and cloudy , it should be fine .

I usually strain then filter it and re used it .

Old gasoline makes dandy weed killer so don't go spilling any on the lawn ! .

BTW : did you shake & tap the old fuel filter to see what kinda crud comes out it's inlet ? . you can tell a lot by what comes out .

The arm pit , usually .

I always tire a clean rag tightly around my wrist due to this ~ 40 + years on and it still burns like FIRE .

D-Jet fuel pumps have an odd hookup ~ they loop around and have a damper in the circuit , easy to mis connect things when you're changing old crispy hoses .

It sounds like it drained the tank....

Maybe you're not following the hose routing correctly .

I did not rain from the tank itself but from the left connector to the FP.

How could everything in the tank come from that point?  I thought the FP sucked from the tank and the entire tank would not have to be drained.  Only the amount left from the FP onward.

So confused about that and so is my mechanic friend.

This one is rated for 30 Amperes continuous duty , it's a *very* good one and Hella also makes them, some are rated @ 50 Amperes , weused to use them for the 100 Watt gutter lamps on street sweepers as well as auxiliary fans etc.

Some even have a plug in ATO typ fuse built in .

Very cheap anywhere you go , lots in junkyards on ALL European vehicles plus often on anything with accessory lamps .

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Pump Testing

 


QUIETLY ~  if it squeals or shrieks , it's kaput .

DO NOT run it longer than a second or two unless you're pumping fuel through it ! .

If you clean around the connectors really well , one will be marked " 31 " ~ that's the brown ground wire .

T'other should be marked " 15 " that's the 12 V + terminal .

I thought that maybe taking that pump out might unseize it a bit.  But would the pump run when jumped to the battery without the relay in (hooked up directly to the battery).

[diesel_mercedes] Bumper trim reattachment

 

Bumper trim reattachment is pretty easy following the below forums.
I finally got sick of the rubber hanging off the bumper.

I wired the 2 bumper trim clips together, so they won't spread again.

Mark which way the rubber trim goes, as it looks the same, yet it fits
better the way it was.

things wiggle and move.....and when tightened, casing can move some, too.

even a broken wire leading to the pump, moves every time you mess with
it......and, can lose connection.
maybe try hot wiring it, direct to the battery (in line fuse/breaker)
and bypass the wiring harness altogether? a manual switch,just for testing?

just a thought
