I shouldn't have bragged about the ice cold R-12 AC in my '82 240D ! .

To - day was a scorcher , it was 96° F @ 3:00 PM and the AC barely blew 80°........

This will be the second or third time I've had to evacuate and re charge it , I am not proficient enough to find the leak and my AC guy won't , he says 4 ~ 5 years before it fails is fine , just go buy more R-12 .

Dammit .

Thanks! You're correct, I'm still above ground and no one is happier about that than I!

I've been active with my Mercs. My 73 220d (W115, 4 speed manual) was bought in early august last year and driven daily from mid September until FWB 10th when I got the 83, which has been my DD since. Last year I bought an 82 just like my 83, same blue over blue, 4 speed with a seized engine. Bought an 81 240d, also a 4 speed, that was rough but ran well with the intention of installing its engine into the nice blue 82. Well, I've got both engines out, but haven't found the time or energy to install the good engine into the other blue car. When the blue 83 came up for sale, I jumped on it with both feet

I also picked up an 83 250. It's a grey market car. Haven't figured out where it came from yet. It is pea green with am M123 2.5l straight 6 carb'd. It has a weber on it that needs to be rebuilt. Interior is dark green which looks awesome with the pea green exterior. It also has Euro bumpers. Really a great looking car. Picked it up, running and driving, albeit not very well, for $600. It's such a good looking car, I'm in love with it despite the slush box. Too bad it's not a 4 speed.

I even looked at an 82 230 touring a month ago. It had euro bumpers. But needed lots of work, so I passed.

But, I'm really in love with diesel W123s and always have an eye out for more!

DON'T SELL IT ! .

I have three Mercedes Diesels and the 240D slushbox is also my favorite one .

I get in the zone when driving it , I won't be rushed to over rev. the engine .

I used to get 30 + MPG's but , IIRC , only on those long Desert road trips where it spent hours @ 60 MPH A/C on " Refrigerate " and the stereo playing some pre war Blues .

It's an 83, 4 speed manual, mix of around town and highway driving. I never cruise more than 62mph on the highway. On the interstate, I like to cruise 58-62mph. Odometer doesn't work, so all my mileage is based on GPS odometer. It has air and cruise control, but neither work.

I've tracked nearly 3600 miles and over that distance, it has gotten right at 35mpg. No additives, just Home Depot diesel. I did change the oil and install Delo 5W-40 synthetic in it this last weekend so I'll see if that improves mileage any.

I bought the car on Feb 10th and adjusted the valves a week later. About a week after that, one if the 14 year old tires suddenly deflated at 60mph, so I put a new set of tires on it, too. I've kept track of the mileage since I got it.

I've owner well over 100 cars so far and this one is in my top 5 all-time favorites. It accelerates slowly, but once it gets wound up, it'll cruise at 80+ all day long. Just don't make me lift!

When I bought the car, it had been sitting under a carport for 8 years. I should have changed the oil when I got it, but just didn't have the time and it ran so well. Over the first 3500 miles, it only burned a quart of oil. Based on that and it's relative oil-tightness, I felt it was definitely worth synthetic.

Plus, it's my favorite color: medium blue over dark blue M-B tex. I've got several friends bugging me to sell it to them.

Just remember : you MUST clean off ALL the old petrified grease before adding new grease or it will not work .

[diesel_mercedes] W-123 Fuel Tank

A non damaged one from any 300D should do ~ NOT from a 240 as they're smaller .

NO HOLES punched and no bent filler neck ! .

I'll clean it but rusty is a no-no .
