Get the Bosch and don't look back.  I have had a blue Bosch coil since the 70's,

and it works fine on my '49 Ford.  Heck the $15 difference is (3) trips to Starbucks.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Charging System more woes

No not low charging at all except maybe as Nate says with the "off brand " regulators. My 240 4 spd charges high 14V at idle. Max

I'll have to check the voltage on my auto 240. I know this has a Schumcks lifetime on it and I'm guessing my 240 4spd has a Mercedes alt on it. Max

The fix is dead simple : go order up and install a BOSCH branded voltage regulator ~ it's *instantly* raise the charge rate to 14 VDC off idle and you'll love it plus have easier starting this Winter .

About $30 .

Also the correct size belt is on now.  I am charging 12.8 at idle underload and 13.5 when revved.  No problems but that still does seem a little low.

[diesel_mercedes] Charging System

They _are_ .

Mercedes made an Engineering decision to run it right around 14 VDG when wide open  ~ this means longer bulb and battery etc. life .

If you keep it in good repair , it'll work just fine .

I cannot abide a low charging rate (11 ~ 13 VDC) so I spent some time investigating and the BOSCH branded voltage regulator is the correct and easy fix .

ALL my Suppliers tell me " we've been selling these non BOASH things for DECADES and you're the only one who complains " .

Then I have them put a BOSCH one in any Customers car and even the dullards can see it's better .

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Purple Power Test

Simple Green is very good stuff indeed *BUT* it dries fast and if you allow it to dry before washing it off with cold water , it stains and you'll _NEVER_ get those stains out .

When it's foggy or drizzling , I use Simple Green to easily clean all the Diesel Smoot off the back of my Coupe , I spray it on and swish it 'round with a soft bristle brush (paint brush) , working it in the crevices under the badges and so on .

Fork lifts do not have the same delicate electrical MPC's Automobiles do ~ I'll not use a steam cleaner ever again as I have repaired the damage done too many times .

That could just be a concentrate issue. Once you have "degreased" they both can use a low power wash at my do-it-yourself $1 car wash to really clean the gunk off.  I have 1/2 bottles of PP and Simple Green so I will alternate them to see which one I like the most. But, my favorite is still those Clorox wipes that you use in the kitchen and bathroom because - not only do they have a cleaner, but it is delivered on a wet pad that absorbs the grease, oil, and scum. For the heavy duty oily underbelly, there is a car wash at the corner of San Gabriel & Mission that will tilt your car 45 degrees and steam clean it. I know (Nate) there are potential issues with steam cleaning, but I steam cleaned fork lifts for 5 years and I think if you are careful and take proper precautions life will be good.  Happy to fill up for $3.56 / gallon today. I'll be happier at $2.50 / gallon but don't think that will happen in my lifetime.
