Ya know, I think I know what you're talking about. But I don't think I own a 23mm wrench. Got a 20mm and a 32, but I just don't think I have a 23. Have to try my metric crescent wrench on it when I do the filters on the 300SD. So remember, if you happen to lose your 23mm wrench, your bike filter strap wrench will work for you.. bk --- On Thu, 4/28/11, Nate <vwnate1@yahoo.com> wrote:

Thought I had a picture of them in the archives, but apparently not. Will try to post a current picture of tires w/ bolts and clearance(s) real soon now... :^)

Lies , all lies ~ .
My '84 300CD Sports Coupe is what we in The Auto Trade call a
' Suvivor ' this means battered junk that should have been scrapped long ago , the original paint is getting very thin and it has nicks & dents all over from the dang hippes in Sta. Monica who drove it into the ground , I was able to save it from being crushed for scrap and I'm happy to have spent 3 X what it'll ever be worth on mechanical repairs , maybe some day I'll figure out how to get it re painted...

Barometric pressure ~ when you have the brake pedal depressed , it uncovers the by - pass port in the master cylinder and the remaining tiny air bubbles ever so slowly work their way out of the system and into the brake fluid resivoir......

No ;
There's a big 23 MM bolt you're supposed to unscrew from the top , then the filter spins off by hand....

Hey great meeting Max today, felt a bit bad that we were in the Toyota and in a bit of a push to get shopping done, Next time Max, we will have the bus & room to sit around.
I am not going to discus Nates driving, because each time I got up the courage to open my eyes, we were still on the road.
Nate was proud to show me his car, it was in very good nick, it did have one very interesting feature, a large dip in the floor where Nate plants his right foot. He tried to tell me that he had to have the dip ('bout 5" deep) installed because his right foot is so strong, I dunno, but am glad to have met two now of our good people.

No question the car feels like it's on rails and had noticeably more traction this winter than last in snow/ice/slush w/out being a winter tire. Took some time/effort to get these mounted and running right, but once those issues were sorted, I've been very happy. These rims came with spacing shims for the front wheels which provide enough clearance not to rub against the tie rod ends, (although it seems there is still a little when the wheel is fully locked on either side, and apparently enough that the tire (not the rim) managed to
eat through the front right wear sensor cable to the back of the disc brake housing))!!
(btw, where do I get a new/longer cable? Front brakes still good but would like to know when the front right one is going)
In addition to extra spacing shims, there are special Mercedes "stretch bolts" which are almost 6" - 8" in depth with are used to mount these rims. I managed to snap 3 of 5 on one wheel, 1 of 5 on another wheel. I had them drilled out and replaced with original Mercedes dealer lugs for these rims....(owch)...Total for the tire from Tire Rack, mounted/balanced/sorted - approx $900....
As expected, I definitely give up some acceleration speed due to the
different size tires, may not have a correct speedo w/out adding a bit
to it and no doubt these rims and tires probably put more tress/strain
on the suspension (which is brand new upfront), but the ride seems to
be worth it and I should get 50k mi out of the lot.
Still have the original 1984 Conti factory spare on Bundt salvaged from the donor car in the trunk. I put about 300 mi on it after swapping engines and just to make sure it was still good, then put it back in the trunk. :^)
