Yes, I'm being cheap and don't want to pay $3.95 for Ken's very straightforward instructions. I did look at the official M-B Shop Manual before posting--this procedure is embedded in procedure 46-520, "Removal and Installation of Intermediate Steering Arm," and, unlike other procedures I've read like adjusting/re-packing wheel bearings, the factory procedure doesn't start with, "lift wheels off the ground to relieve pressure."
On the other hand, the manual could also be making an assumption that the trained Mercedes technician isn't an idiot and would already be doing this to create access to the parts in question.
I think most people (including me) prefer to work on cars on jack stands rather than car ramps. On the other hand, it's so much easier to drive the car onto its ramps rather than take the time and care of properly jacking up a W123....
