[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Economy Check '84 300CD

411 miles , mostly with the AC on ,  and 3 ounces of Silvery bottle Diesel Kleen in a full tank .

24.9 MPG , about the same . it feels kinda sluggish off from a dead start , maybe it's tune up time again , valves and air filter etc.

SWMBO accompanied me to - day and after picking up some re soled wingtip shoes & having two new Michelin ' Defender ' tires installed , she said she'd help me wash my Coupe ~ it rained here Wednseday and I was out in it just as the heavens opened up and poured for 10 minutes , I was on the Freeway in down town L.A. and noticed the _entire_ roadway covered in a white frothy substance , whatever it was , a truck I got stuck behind , sprayed my whole car with it in two minutes , the car looked like a bucket  of waste oil had been thrown on it , it all dried out and I used " Awsome Tire & Wheel Cleaner " from the Dollar Max store plus a soft paint brush to gently work it all loose then I flushed it off with the hose , then I washed the car normally , the upper flat surfaces all had tiny black dots of some oily crud that smeared as I washed it , what a PIA to clean but it looks nice again now , this stuff works really well on the powder coated ' Bundt ' wheels too ~ I normally use an 1-1/2" or 2" brush but this time I used a 3" one , I gotta go back to The Dollar Store and buy some more 1-1/2" brushes because they're narrow enough to fit in the venting holes and clean more brake dust grime off .

I saw Tom turning North onto Hill St. as I was heading South to SWMBO's house around 4:00 PM but he had his windows up (and prolly had NPR News on too) so he didn't hear my EXTREMELY LOUD vintage Mercedes dual horns when I tooted although the glares everyone else gave me , makes me sure they heard them just fine =8-)  .

I'm *almost* ready for Sunday's TT Drive event ~ I need to replace a broken off air cleaner rubber mount and maybe the air filter element , check the tire pressure & spare and I'll be good to go .

[diesel_mercedes] RE: RE: RE: RE: $7,600 Offer from Insurance 1982 MB 300 CD turbo coupe

Geico has a long reputation of this plus they're the most expensive when I went insurance shopping....

That Lizard sure is greedy ! .

Who is your insurer?  I have GEICO and when I hit a deer, it was a nightmare getting them above 4,000 on my car.  I was dinged by the adjuster for such things as "smoke around tailpipe - indicating fire or engine damage".   I might as well have been speaking Navajo when I said it's a DIESEL and that soot is typical.  The body was also rated "bad shape" because of a minor ding with a chip the size of a ball point pen on the driver's side door.  I've dropped coverage to liability only because they were such asses.

I bet it went overseas .

Well, here is the number guys.  It's three times what I paid for the car.  Probably more money than I put in it over the last 6 years.

But, it's a first offer number to settle up on the theft.  Any thoughts?  Do I counter offer on the settlement?  Who's done this before.

Thanks for the help.

[diesel_mercedes] AutohausAZ

I like and have used a lot of different vendors over the past 5-7 years - want to keep them all in business I guess. But, I wanted to give AutohausAZ a pat on the back. Yesterday, I repeat "yesterday", I ordered nuts, bolts, washers, diesel purge, antifreeze, and other "stuff" which arrived via UPS today. That is a one day turn around! I was in no hurry for any of it, but glad it all got here pronto. Hope that works for some part I really need in a hurry.

Well kids ;

It's that time of year again so I broke out the vacuum and began readying my '84 300CD Diesel Sports Coupe for another great road rally , I was looking at the tatty plastic heel protector asnd realized I had a much better condition driver's side floor mat in the house , fetched it and Lo ! it's in like new condition and I even cleaned it before stashing it away .

Now I'll have to scrub the rest of the interior to match =8-^ .

We're forecasted for rain to - day so after bagging the three engines in my driveway I scrubbed the windshield and applied some Rain-X ~ unless you've ever tried this <magic> stuff you cannot believe how great it works ~ it's called " The Invisible Windshield Wiper " because as soon as you go over 30 MPH , the _entire_ windshield clears off , no need to run the wipers at all .
