Bad planning on these cars. Very messy oil change. Mine must of not had a skid plate or its not in the way. Left side, 19mm or 17mm socket, drops down with a lot of oil. Might help to jack up that side of the car a bit.  Max

Be sure you have the correct filter, black rubber O-ring, and a copper (squash) washer for the bolt. Shops will sometimes put in the wrong (smaller) filter. Be sure to get the old black rubber O-ring out of there before putting the new one on; it'll be a pain.

Driver's side, straight down from the firewall. <picture attached>  It should have an oil line running out of it to the firewall for the oil pressure gauge on the dash.
It's a canister type that the filter element goes inside of; not a spin on like American cars have uses since the 1960's.

So....I feel really dumb. But where is the oil filter housing on my 1965 Mercedes 190D?

I can't find any diagrams online and the only filter housing I can see is the fuel filter. I really appreciate the help!!!
