[diesel_mercedes] Re: Hard starting black puff when starting
It appears that the relay is bad. The two pins going to the glow plug that are
closest to the engine block are somewhat energetic. The two nearest the fender
are without voltage. Since a strong 12 v is needed I'd say the contacts in the
relay are bad. Does that sound right? Lawrence Rhodes......

Agreed, have him recheck the recient work.
Where the springs replaced in the rebuild ? If no, I would suspect one them.
When I purchased my car, both front springs where broken, a coil or two from the bottom, I noticed it due to a metal rubbing noise. Had front springs replaced.
About a mounth later, leaving Lowes after picking up stuff for my WVO conversion, BANG ! What a pop. But all seemed ok, however at inspection a week after that, the shop informed my that one of my rear springs was broken and it was a fresh break.
I exactly knew when and where it let loose. Again it was one of the first coils. They where all ready saggy so I did not notice any difference in ride height after the break.
With the new springs, what a difference in height.
There are pics in the pic section of the ride height with my 4 new springs and some measurments in an post in the group.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Bad news
Greg, check the retaining bolt on the end of the torsion bar. The bushings cover this bolt and hold moisture causing this hidden area to rust. Teh symptoms you mention are similar to those I experienced, especially the braking. I welded a stud onto the end of the torsion bar but I'll probably replace it. --- On Mon, 2/21/11, Greg Arrambide <rio78840@yahoo.com> wrote:
