When People ask me what car they should get for their college aged kids my first response is "an 77 through 85 diesel Mercedes". When they quit laughing and say "No, seriously", I say an early 90's Subaru legacy. After that is Toyota. Anyway, I am finally scraping a Subaru Legacy of that vintage and wanted to share the existence of two parts that would interest us MB diesel owners.
First is an electric vacuum pump mounted on the inside right shock tower. Pull three 10mm nuts and it's yours. It's a boxy looking thing. If you can't find it, then follow the vacuum line from the throttle actuator in the engine compartment, in front of the driver, around until changes to a flexible hose. The other end of that hose is the vacuum pump.
Second is a cute little part that is used to hold the large AC hose in place in the top center rear part of the engine compartment. It looks remarkably like the air cleaner mounts that are always breaking and we can't seem to find enough of. They use the same nut sizes our air cleaner mounts use.
I have posted an album in the photos section called "usefull Subaru parts" My junkyard doesn't charge me for these. And they have a line of early 90's legacys 20 cars long.
Bogy.
