On Tues, I enjoyed that thumping noise all the way through the central valley of Calif. My RR axle broke on the grapevine, yet I limped all the way to Merced, and found a Euro mechanic and a rental car to make it up the hill toward Yosemite. I didn't want to get stuck in Bakersfield, Fresno, or elsewhere in the valley, yet knew I wouldn't make it up the hill with a broken axle, so I stopped in Merced. It's supposed to be fixed tomorrow. It went out without much warning, though adjusting the speed slowed or stopped the thumping for awhile, or maybe it was turning up the radio.

There are thick sections and thin ones. These are stronger in compression that tension and pushing through the thick section is more better than pushing through the thin ones while pulling the thick ones.I have removed and reinstalled these dozens of times over the years and apparently luck failed me this last time when the front one vaporized.
