Hay guys and gals, I have decided to have the rust repaired on my 85 300TD. I need a passinger's side rear quarter or wheel arch. I have found them on the internet, but they are out of stock or not being produced. There has to be someone that sells body parts for 300TDs out there. Can someone give me a lead?

RE: [diesel_mercedes] Silvia '84 300SD - off with her head!

Question when reinstalling the head: Does Mercedes suggest replacing all of the head bolts and nuts due to stretch the first time they’re used?  Bill in Oregon

Subject: [diesel_mercedes] Silvia '84 300SD - off with her head!

I saw the thread about things being quiet, and they have been for me as well - haven't put even a turn on the engine since it the mega-valve-guide-slop was spotted. Today Silvia gets towed home to soon to be surgical lab that is currently my garage. I've managed to cajole my diesel literate brother to help me with a head removal (and hopefully a rebuild)from my 300SD. Not sure exactly when this will begin (w/in a week to 10 days), but most likely you'll be hearing from us in the near future....pics will come as I get a chance to take any of interest....based on what I've learned so far, as long as the head is not too worn and no cracks, it is re-buildable. New ones are on offer from MetricMotors in CA for $1100 + $550 core - I'm sure they're nice, but hoping I don't go that route.

To the person who offered me a spare engine - THANK YOU! I can't find your email/note right now, but your kindness is most appreciated. At this point I'm going to (try) to repair what I've got on hand, but won't count out the offer if its still open and needed further down the road. I really do love this diesel minded community and appreciate everyone's support...

over and out for now....anyone who has direct experience removing/refurbishing/replacing the head on 300SD/OM617 engines, please feel free to share your stories/advice direct or on the list...

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Pi$$ed Off

Usually the power cord plugs in, but even with full access the heater can be difficult to remove.

Tom and I were in a Pick-A-Part the other day and stumbled across a '85 300D with factory fitted block heater ~ just the thing for the hard core Diesel Head (ahem) . sadly some boob had taken the turbo and manifolds complete , although this makes for super easy accesss , the boob had used a sawsall cut right through the various brackets supports , POWER CORD and so on......

Grumble .

[diesel_mercedes] Surging at Idle

Some one on this list mentioned an adjustment on the injection pump to cure surging at idle.  (at least we've got an idle) How and what do I adjust?

Thanks

[diesel_mercedes] RE : Messages

O.K. Taran ;

Thank you for your patience and explanations .

I have un even Internet access so I don't get any messages fom this group , when I go OnLine I go to the Home Page and read them from there .

This is (I think) why I occasionally miss threads .

The Yahoo system message I saw that was sent to him was triggered when he tried to send a message to the group; banned folks get an automatic message explaining that they are banned and unable to message the group. So the easy solution for not getting that message is for him to not send messages to the group, since they will always be rejected.
