[diesel_mercedes] New Windshield

Ouch Rob ~

I'm glad you weren't hurt by flying glass ~ I had the hood of a Honda come sailing at me on the freeway once ~ luckily for me I was driving an old VW Beetle as it came through the windshield like a scythe and would have decapitated me but for the narrow windshieled old Beetles (1960)  had ~ it jammed between the posts about 6" from my neck .

Sobering to say the lest .

The asshat who's car it flew off of , saw what happened and took off running .

This red W-123 has very nice paint and body ~ no rust anywhere , it's been re painted .

Most of the inside door panels were there , carpets etc.

I forgot to look at the dashboard ~ I need a couple but am not really looking forward to taking one apart on my own car....

Right now waiting for new MB windshield rubber to arrive, as something
hit me hard in the windshield last week. Not sure what it was, as it was
night and I never saw it, yet it nicked the hood, broke the plastic bolt
cover on the wiper and smashed in my windshield. It was quite shockingly
loud when it happened.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Fun In The Sun

Last summer one of my sons was up here helping me out and he got a letter from a Sheriff's dept. from some California town stating his car was in a impound yard and if he wanted it he has to come get it and pay a high fee. He sells Subarus and he had sold this car but the Rastafarian stoner who bought it never changed the title so legally it was still his car. Also he must of got busted for something. He did go get it (my son)and he said there were glass pipes all over the car and it smelled very strongly of weed. But he got to sell it again and it was worth the 2000 mile drive and the impound fee. Max

[diesel_mercedes] Idler arm bushing replacement: jack stands or ramps?

Hi everyone,

All this talk about how to best jack up your W123 makes me ask a question that I'm sure has come up before. I've finally tired of the 1974-Plymouth Valiant looseness of my steering (and the increasingly frequent odd clunk), and I've ordered a new set of idler arm bushings.

Is it possible to change the bushings with the car up on ramps, or is it necessary to put the car on jack stands to let the front wheels hang down?  Ramps are a heck of a lot easier to deploy, and since I don't plan to change anything in terms of tie rods, I was wondering/hoping that there's not a need to relieve pressure on the idler arm before swapping out these parts.

Thoughts?  Opinions?  One scenario, as I see it, is that I get the old bushings out and then can't get the new ones in. I don't like that idea.
