Re: [diesel_mercedes] Gotta have a belt first!

Trish, Not only do you have to worry about length, but width, and angle. If you have a belt that you think might be right, twist it around so you can see how it fits in the compressor pulley. The belt should fit in the groove so that the top sits a little bit out of the groove. Obviously, the angle of the belt should match the angle of the pulley. Now you have two of the three specs you need. If no one comes up with the magic part number, put a piece of rope around the compressor pulley and the drive pulley and mark the rope where the ends cross. (Actually, you will probably want to get Kevin to do all that.) Take the belt and rope to Carquest or NAPA and they can find a match, if they are in the mood. Good luck. Bobby

[diesel_mercedes] Gotta have a belt first!

Oops, forgot that Kevin took the a/c belt off because we used the a/c from my 81 300D & the belt won't fit on the '80 300SD.

I've been researching on Rock, PP, AutoHauz, Oreilly, NAPA (apparently they no longer carry MB parts, in the select vehicle area they do not offer MB any more)

I'm confused as to which belt to get & I can't find it local so I want to get the right one the first time...I have enough oops parts I've bought online and not returned.

Rock: Many to choose from.  Automatically disregard the cheapest $1.95.  Goodyear size is 36.5.  Gates size is 36 7/8.  Acdelco 36 7/8.

Autohauz: 13x925  I'm guessing that's in mm?

Soooo what length is the correct one???  It makes no sense that the brands Rock carries have different sizes.

And WOW I'm looking for the washer water bottle.  I was shocked at the price PP wants!  I'm not on that page any more, but it was something upwards of $100!  I'll wash out a milk jug & rig it in there before I spend THAT kind of money for a clean windshield!

Fwd: [diesel_mercedes] 2-240's for sale

Max,

I suppose that for a man who will be on crutches, the old show biz good luck admonition to "break a leg" may not be appropriate.

Too many of us are getting to a point of too great familiarity with hospitals.  I suppose the best we can hope for is a Romney victory in the fall, which will lead to an end to all affordable health care, so we won't have to worry about going to the hospital.

If you're going to be not-driving all summer, won't you be desperate for the comforts of a 123 in the fall?  Might it be premature to be selling them off?

Best wishes for beating whatever is taking you to the hospital, and more good driving after your recuperation.

Speaking of vents that don't work, why not get a Mercedes that does not even have that stupid CC control system? Heaters that work, AC that works, get a 240 with the manual systems that actually work. I am selling both my 240's for $5K. They are twins so you don't even have to license both cars, just switch the plates. It works fine. Both cars have newer engines and both run perfect. No blo-by, no leaks. Why get one that is junk when good ones are out there? Anyway, going into the hospital soon, I will be on crutches all summer, cant drive ,selling all my cars. Max

[diesel_mercedes] Idler arm repair

My alignment shop says I have to replace the idler arm to get my 83 240D
aligned. I looked in the archives and there is nothing which I'm having a hard
time believing. Any good resource on how to do this? Any special tools?

Re: [diesel_mercedes] U joint & windows

Trish, you have to start using Bing, Wickie, You Tube, and Google as there tons of documents, photos, and fix its out there for you. AND, go to (what used to be) Performance Products for their downloadable or just viewable schematics and system blow ups for your particular model.

I know it's not called a U joint on a MB but Kevin can't remember what it is called and I know you know what we're talking about...

Anyhow I have a thud or vibration whether I'm accelerating or not.

Kevin wonders if it matters how he put the transmission etc together.  He says there's a "triangle shaped thing" he said on "normal" cars it's the u joint, he hooked up and he wonders if it could have been put on wrong???

Other than that it's rather smooth driving! :)

Really, really need to get that fan for the front of the car so I have a/c...it's getting HOT here...today hovering around 90.

OH and since I only have 2 functioning windows...curious..how far down are the back windows supposed to go?  Mine does not go all the way down.

Thanks Brian!

I'll need that fan then.

The fan supports were broken so it's off, but we still have it and all of the parts.

Where do the flex discs go? I'm being lazy here I could look it up.  It's not going to be fixed this weekend.  Is it dangerous or just a nuisance?

Yeah the DPO did work on them..so who knows how much he messed them up. Not a priority, it goes down and up..sometimes I have to urge it either way, but it works which is good enough for me, for now.

Thanks!

Not sure he'd go for being locked in the trunk!  He was upset enough when he went digging under the seat for his lost cell phone and found an apple core I had lost days before! hahahaha...I thought it was funny anyhow!

Not the motor mounts. However I did mention to him he might want to check to see how tight they are now that I've put 1400 miles on it.

We tried to record the thud, but you can't hear it recorded.

Where are you that it's so nice??
