Re: [diesel_mercedes] RE: Charging system Again

Is it mostly because the belt is in the back?  Max

Touching the throttle when starting a fuel injected car guarantees hard starting .

[diesel_mercedes] Curbside Alternator Service

It helps to run both passenger side wheels up onto the curb and also to grab the sheet off your Motel room bed and lie on that .
Try to do it as soon after coffee as possible because when the sun comes up it's a beastly hot job .

Other than that I find the job is simple if tedious and dirty .

Guess how I know these details ? =8-) .

Hi Nick ;

The _ONLY_ way to get the correct Bosh branded regulator in a rebuilt alternator is to buy a Bosh branded rebuilt alternator .

Peach Parts , Buy M-B , your local Dealer or perhaps Tom @ The Mercedes Classic Center .
IMO , once you have the correct voltage regulator even the 55 ampere alternator will work just fine .

If you can find a photo of the 65 ampere one and the connections are the same , then I strongly suggest buying that one .

OK, I followed the last time this came up in the forum but now am a bit unclear.

My Mercedes 1984 300D is not charging. I start the car and battery reads about 12.10 volts. Rev the engine slightly and it does not change. With Car turned off, reads about 12.15.  This tells me the alternator is dead, Correct?

OK, so I need a new one.  Made some calls, there are 55 and 65 Amp ones available.  I know from this forum I need one with a Bosch voltage regulator.  How do I find the right alternator with a bosch regulator.  Are the 55 and 65 volt ones interchangeable?  I do not want to do this job twice.  I will also run a ground wire from the battery to the alternator bracket when I replace this unit.

In the past, I have always bought lifetime warranty units for other cars from Kragens.  From what I read here, that is not the best option.

Thanks, Nick

[diesel_mercedes] No Start

Now the 1977 280 won't start.  First I noticed that the throttle is not opening when the accelerator is depressed but I think the cable is attached.  You can open the throttle with your hand so I don't think it is stuck.

Anyone with any ideas?  Thanks and thanks again.
