Since we've had a rash of off-topic, ad-hominem posting, I've switched the group back to fully moderated. While this may sound great to those who were frustrated by the noise, moderation comes at a cost to all of us.

For now, I will have to approve each and every posting to the group, even from long-time members. That means it will take longer for your posts to be published to the group. Please don't submit the same message repeatedly and ask why it isn't appearing.

Since I don't enjoy playing traffic cop, I'm going to be fairly mercenary about this. If your post is not relevant to diesel Mercedes autos, I will most likely deny it. Folks who post off-topic repeatedly will be banned.

My hope is that after a little supervision, the conversation will move back where it belongs, and folks who want to discuss politics and alternative fuel theories, or make personal attacks will move on. At that point, we'll return to our previous policy of established members being able to post freely.

Thanks for being a part of this group,

Taran Reese

Taran, these things seem to erupt annually ala Mt. Vesuvius. Usually over the same 2 or 3 topics. Your blowing the trumpet annually with a "here is how we should behave" message should cure the sickness.

Thanks for the tip, Bobby! That was how the group was set up until yesterday. Unfortunately several of the folks going off-topic were long-time members who were no longer moderated.

I hope to go back to your way of doing things in a few days once some folks calm down.

Thanks again,

Taran,

Thanks for your efforts and patience here.

I moderate another list.  I set it up so new people get moderated.  Once they have posted a reasonable message, I switch the newbie to unmoderated.  This gives me the best of both worlds - not much workload on me and fewer spams.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Today, my diesel let me down.

There is the fuel screen in the tank that could be clogged.  If it has been setting for any time, algae will build up!  Do the fuel filters first.  They are the easiest.

Hey Gang,

Started off to work this morning in my 1982 turbo coupe and it stumbled getting out of the drive, went a few yards and then died. It started up just fine first thing, but driving off it acted like it was "loading up". It will crank, but not run for any length of time.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a slight stumble on the freeway at 75, but it cleared up.

I am betting on a change of fuel filters, but I am open to other causes. I'll change out the filters this afternoon in the warm Texas sun.

Hello to all.
Not posted before but read the mail regularly.
Some interesting point some not really relevant.

Me? I am in the UK, England.
I drive a 220CDI estate. yes its quite a small motor
when compared to what most of you drive.
Its a 2003 model with which I am very happy.
Its so comfortable its untrue and its also
pretty reliable. Got some problems at the moment with the
Glow Plugs, guess its going to cost me another small fortune
to fix.
While on the subject of costs, count yourselves lucky when it
comes to fuel.
Here in the UK diesel is dearer than gas and we are paying astronomical prices for it.
An Imprial gallon is over £6 pounds stirling.
And you guys think you have it hard??
Enjoy reading most of the mail and seeing the photos.

I guess we are all united in one thing? we all love our Mercs.
Keep up the good work and keep the faith.
