Thanx fellas ! .

I'll have to jack it up and take a look, I didn't install the new tranny mount because I didn't overhaul the tranny, as far as I know, Victor only uses factory M-B parts unless they're no longer available .

Back when the Diesel craze was going on this was a common problem and there were many detailed posts about how to properly adjust it .

I guess I'll just have to take a look and see what I can do .

To - day was productive, I did a hot oil and filter change then I pulled up my big boy pants and finally adjusted the IP's vacuum rod, I was really worried I'd snap off the delicate and N.L.A. plastic clip but it came off O.K. then I popped the oddly shaped rod off, loosened the 8MM ATF jamb nut and carefully turned the ball socket 360 degrees clockwise, shortening it a fraction, snugged up the jamb nut, lubricated the ball joint and re assembled, it now shifts at a lower RPM, something I've been desiring for a while now .

As usual, I was worried I'd do it wrong and in the end it was fairly simple .

I don't think there's a drive shaft / U-Joint problem because it vibrates when I'm stationary in gear .

Then I began testing for a central locking vacuum leak, I began under the hood and my old MityVac tool couldn't hold so I couldn't really test it much, I noticed the two yellow pipes from the firewall didn't fit snugly to the yellow one way vacuum valve (any time you can easily pull off a rubber hose it's BAD), replaced the two short bits of rubber hose there and took the MityVac tool back to Autozone where they replaced it with a different brand one that also doesn't hold more than 5" of vacuum, oh well, at least I have a newer tool that holds _some_ vacuum, simply replacing the two short bits of hose makes it hold vacuum for a few minutes and shows me that the passenger side rear door takes longer to lock than the others do, want to guess where my vacuum leak is ? .

A good way to start isolating vacuum problems is to go into the driver's door and pull the three lines off of the controller. One should have vacuum when the engine is running and the other two should each hold vacuum One's open and the other is close. I have vacuum, which means my reservoir and supply are good, but neither of my other lines holds vacuum. Now it's time to go into it further. does anyone have a link to the video on how to pursue this?

I'll fire off a note to Tom and get a new one coming .

Peach Parts has an order for me to pick up, I added some blue silicone vacuum hose to it and will begin replacing all those short bits that are now ten years or more older ~ the silicone stuff looks horrible but never gets stiff & leaky .

I tinkered with a headlight who's retaining ring had loosened, oddly none of the three little screws fell out, they just backed out a bunch, easy to fix .

I did a few more things but ran out of steam around 2:30PM and took a nap, Old Man stuff you know .

Maybe to -morrow I'll replace the broken throttle linkage isolator in my Coupe .

I still need to wash and wax both cars then do a LOF, valve adjust and other tinkers to the gray market 300TD....

I hope someone here has a how to or maybe can provide a link to some articles about this, I searched Peach Parts forums but cannot find this specific one .

TIA,

Look at the new mount. If it is solid rubber, with no perforations around the rubber pillars like the old one, you have one of those crappy ones they are passing off as replacements. The original trans mount had two round bits of rubber that were pointed in a V shape downward, with obvious openings between. Cheap copies are solid.

My replacement vibrated the car so bad, I put the original one back on. Might as well have bolted the trans right to the cross member!

Re: [diesel_mercedes] '81 / '82 240D Rear Tranny Mount Adjustment

Nate,

Are you talking about a vibration when at idle? or while driving?

Mine can be as smooth as silk idling one day, and vibrate the next.

If while driving, unless you can see damaged bushings, I'd think that would be more the driveshaft bearing and /or U joint.

It seems the tranny wants to be in one spot, when attached to the engine; you could loosen the bolts at the tranny bushing, and see if it wants to move.
