[diesel_mercedes] Klima II Control

DO NOT buy a used one ! .

Rebuilt HVAC control units are easily available from any M-B Partshaus .

Peach Parts , Buy MB PartsEtc. , etc.

NOT cheap .

FWIW , if you have any burnt out wiring (doubtful but it occasionally happens) the fan motor is almost certainly the culprit so remove it and test it , replace as necessary before you fry the rebuilt pushbutton control .

90 + % of the time , intermittent blowing of air (hot or cold) is caused by a worn out fan , they're now cheap @ $100 brandy new .

IIRC , your W-126's fan motor brushes can be easily replaced and Mercedes Source in Bellingham , Wa. sells a $100 (+/-) kit with instructions to do so .

Okay......I have A/C going, but it's intermittent. We changed out a relay that only cost 300 bucks, due to it being burned out from bad wiring.

But......I have a question.....I think my push button controller may be on it's last leg, and the mechanic I used said he could not find a replacement. Is this true????

I have 1984 300 SD, it's needed tender loving care and I am finally getting a chance to let her have some....any ideas where I can find this?

Thanks all

RE: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Help please

Second the valve adjustment.  My 220D had hard starting problems.

·         Replaced glow plugs, they were very poor condition

·         Valve adjustment

·         Rebuild vacuum pump and replace one line

·         Diesel purge, and replaced all filters

Easy start up, greatly reduced smoke, fun to drive again.

Just about everyone on the list has asked a question about hard starting and been greeted by  chorus of, "When did you last adjust your valves?"  The combination of tight valves and/or a significantly worn timing chain will make it very difficult to start your engine, even if you don't have any air in your fuel system.  I have heard more than a few stories of MB diesels that were junked for hard starting, when all they likely needed was a valve adjustment.

If your valves and injection pump timing are both fine, and, on the fuel side, everything looks good from the hand primer pump forward, then you probably should take a look at your fuel filters and the intake screen in your fuel tank.  Personally, I know that I don't pay as much attention to the big main fuel filter as I should, and it's lasted through multiple changes of my clear in-line filter.  However, those filters can and do get clogged up from use, too.

Hope this helps get you pointed in a productive direction.

first check glow plugs.  Look at previous posts here about that.  Just do a search for glow plugs.  Another thing.  Loose all the fittings at the engine for the injectors one at a time then pump the primer.  This is the check to see if fuel weeps through each loose fitting.  Don't forget to retighten.  Lawrence Rhodes

Re: [diesel_mercedes] my Air conditioning

Randy,

There are used controllers available at the junk yards, just look at the
circuit board to see that it's not fried, brown, burned, etc.
New one's are still available from MB, though not cheap.
Talk to Thom at the MB Classic Center.

Randy,

Three used on ebay right now but better to buy a rebuilt unit.
not sure I like a mechanic who can't find a part like this. Most parts for these cars are easy to find with minimal search effort

RE: [diesel_mercedes] my Air conditioning

I did an eBay search using AC controller 85 300 SD:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=AC+controller+85+Mercedes+300+SD&_sop=15

I now nothing about AC units as I have a 1961.  Bill in Oregon
