That all depends. Was the car kept in a heated garage in Greenwich?
Is Connecticut a rust bucket state? Max
This group provides a forum for owners and operators of diesel powered motorhomes and 5th wheel tractors to discuss mechanical issues, regulatory issues (US, Canada), ownership, insurance, campground accommodations, trip reports/suggestions, and other topics relevant to large RVs and the people who drive them.

I have a 1959 180D although I doubt you are gonna want to go for a ride in it anytime soon. Max

I'm not sure what the oldest MB's on this list are, though we hear about
some oldies here and there. Those folks with oldies can chime in for
themselves, though it seems like the bulk of members on this list have
MB diesels from the late 70's-early 80's. That said, I'm sure we all
would at least ponder getting an older model if we saw one for sale, and
it wasn't too trashed, as they sure look cool.

FWIW, I had a battery in my 300SD that stopped working after being newly installed. The battery had developed an internal electrical discontinuity between the cells, presumably because it was defective, but the high cranking amperage of the motor under cold conditions probably made the problem evident by blowing the riveted bar link between the cells. My guess is that the electrical connection between the cells in your battery are defective, overheating and boiling the solution out of that cell. There may be only partial contact of the conductors between the cells, causing the high amperage to heat that connector, like the old slow-blow fuses in house fuse panels. Just a guess. --- On Tue, 10/2/12, diyernh@comcast.net <diyernh@comcast.net> wrote:
