My automatic 240 starts so much better in cold weather even with a 10  year old battery. My 4 spd.(only when cold , like below 30 or so ) not only does not like starting but when cranking the starter gear kicks out. Nate, could having a manual make the starter kick out? Below 20 degrees I dont even try. When cold outside I always put the clutch in to start. I'm off grid so I dont plug in the block heater, but I have done it  a couple of times and then it will start easy.  Car runs like a top, engine has around 100K on a factory Mercedes replacement, huge stack of paper work of whats been done to this car, a lot, me, second owner. My other 240 no documentation, 100K more miles, but I swear that one runs better. Just got back from Reno and Sacramento.( Henry, drove right by the trucks at Fruitland) Diesel was a full dollar over regular at lots of main places. Up here around .50 cents over. Both my 240's are down for winter, zero by morning. I'll have to drive the 06 Outback with heated seats and mirrors. Max

@ 30* F , I'd cycle the glow plugs twice and hold the throttle to the floor until all four cylinders are firing .

Voltage reading. It finally warmed up to 30 degrees so I started my car to move it. Still hard starting. Anyway I checked the voltage. At super low idle it was 14V. At high revving it was still 14V. I turned the lights on and it dropped to 13.95V, did not matter if I revved or not. I did notice a tag on the alternator that said re-built but it was too dark to really see what it said. Its always worked good. Car is now parked until April. Max
