Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: goes on craigslist tonight

I know, they hug you.  Love them.  I test drove two in 1999 back when I had a career and thought about buying a used one.  Sigh.  Just got off the phone with a potential buyer, he said the electrical system in them are the pits.  So I guess I should just get it out of my head.  Rent one maybe for a weekend trip...hmmm, now that's an idea!

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Window tint kit

Got all 3 of my cars (83-84,  300D, 300DTD, 300SD)  done at a pro shop.   @ about or less than $100 ... cost averaged for amt of tint.   The guy absolutly KNEW what he was doing,

gave good advice about NOT rolling down the windows for a few days.   and assured that the left-over miniscule bump-dots  would disappear ... they did in a week or 10 days.
Am  not only Very pleased with the results, but the tint really does  keep down the UV heat.

(Maryland has a 35% law ... keeps the cops from being paranoid...  ergo -- thus keeps down their insurance's coverage medical costs for anxiety Rx)

If ever I have enough spare change, and an hour's time, I'd go back for a 40-50% tint and just say:  "  But... officer,  the guy said it is the legal 35%."

Anyone ever used a window tint kit? In the neverending search for a cool W123 in the heat of the summer, I figure I am going to do some window tinting aka put some tinted stickers on the windows... Can anyone recommend a brand? Or talk me out of trying to do this? I am impatient with stuff like this and I'm afraid I'll end up with bubbles simply because I can't be bothered to do it right. Or I'll end up with it hopelessly stuck to itself and ruined even before I get it installed.

[diesel_mercedes] Re : ! Tank vent clogged.

Why can't you just take the fuel tank cover off and find the line, disconnect
the rubber hoses and figure out where the blockages are and(while the tank is
still in place) blow out the lines. Or does that line go in front of the tank?
Then I'm sunk. Lawrence Rhodes

I forgot to mention that he should tell that to what's her face, the pro racer.  Sorry not into racing...um, Danica Patrick.

As a general rule I don't drive fast.  I go 5 over the limit and that's about it.  I hate giving my money to the state for tickets and around here they loooove to give tickets for everything!

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : Pocket Radios

We made crystal sets in Edison Jr. High's electric class in 1952. My first program was Arthur Godfrey from Chicago.

THANX ! .

You alls are always so helpful .

My love of the radio began in the early 1960's when I bought a Japanese crystal radio for $4 because it didn't need any batteries and I never had any $(the $4 was a serious fluke , belive me) for batteries .

I'd listen to it late at night when all was quiet , using the bed springs or the window screen as the antenna .

Maybe I should build another cystal set .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : CHIP Got You Started !

I'm betting he's just teasing you Trish .

Anyone who thinks Women can't/shouldn't/don't drive fast , needs to ride with my Daughter In Law , she's a *very* accomplished Racer , just closed out the season in first place .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: blowing off in tank filter, Startron & O Rings

Had a retired cop turned trucker for 18 yrs call me today about my car.  Said "yeah that's the stuff the pros use".  He's gonna come out around 2pm (cst) to look at my car.  Maybe she'll be going to a new home!  He said "yep, that's what it sounds like" when I described how it's running.

You can put in as much Startron as you want , it cannot over dose .

There's a boot , several spcial construction O-Rings and maybe two paper gaskets where the oil pipes connect to the turbo .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : ! Tank vent clogged.

Uh, not gonna happen.  Selling the car AS IS.  Take it or leave it.  Eventually someone will buy her.

I have one of those squeeze things for my compressor, that's what I used last night. I think if I do it again it'll blow more of the crud off.

I'd toss some coverals (or other get grubby Work Clothes) into the car and drive it to the gas station that has the tire hose with the lever squeezy thing on the end to fill your tires and use that to blow the clogged pipe clean from underneath the car , filler cap _OFF_ of course .

Then change out of the now gruby clothes and motor on home happliy , stop for coffee etc.

It's prolly just a mud dauber wasp's nest in there .

Or , you can totally unload the trunk , remove the black sheet metal safety firewall , loosing several 8 MM ATF head screws in the process , remove the tank spiling Diesel Fuel everywhere so the wghole car will stink of Diesel this winter and springing your lower back , then undo the steel pipes , losing the special hose clamps and tearing the special Dealer Only backordered hoses and seals , then use a hand bicycle pump to maybe blow out the blockage in your drveway , further pi$$ing off SWMBO and amusing your neighbors and the Landlord , killing the flowers & grass where the spilled Diesel Fuel runs off.....
