[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Economy Check '77 240D Manual

No it shouldn't Mark and that's my complaint ~ this car used to get 27  ~ 32 MPG's and sometimes 34 + o road trips, fully loaded with the AC on refigerator .

Why I'm grumpy here .

I love this particular car but the crappy fuel economy is pissing me off .

NO SMOKE that I can discern .

Even the bottom left 1/2 of the rear bumper is shiny .

I don't understand .

Just ran two separate mileage checks on my '77 240D manual. 32 mpg. Air off. Varied terrain, with some pretty steep hills. First test was on a 700 mile trip. An automatic eats up that much fuel?

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Economy Checks....

1982 240D slushbox, A/C used constantly and Biobor added, I'm still seeing black fungus crud in the clear plastic intake screen...

Low fuel lamp on @408 miles, 23 MPG .

1984 300CD slushbox, AC used, Biobor, 306 miles, low fuel lamp on at 300 miles, 18MPG, dang .

I just replaced the injection pump and injectors, I'm hoping the fuel economy improves, so far no smoke in my rear view mirror, we'll see .

[diesel_mercedes] OM617 Air Cleaner Bracket

Alan ;

? Is there any chance of getting a photograph of this thing ? .

I've lost track of how many 'T' brackets this car has eaten up, at least 6, I have one on will call @ Peach Parts to - morrow but I'd happily pay more for a better built one (hint) .

I'm driving the car to - day and it runs better with the rebuilt I.P. -but- the 14.1 volts I saw yesterday is gone already, sigh .

At least the battery checks out as fully charged at rest .

On wards, ever on wards =8-) .

You have  more endurance than I have!  I welded a piece of flat bar stock on the air cleaner mount.  It will clear without a problem because the rubber bumpers raise the air cleaner enough.  This set up has lasted several years.
